89 DT125R electrical problems
Permalink

Just put a new battery on my 89 DT and fired her up for the first time the bike will fire up and start no problem but none of the electrics that should work with the ignition switched on and engine not running are working though only the horn and the temp gauge shoots to past the red.

Its getting power through the loom into the ignition switches red wire and out of the ignition switches brown wire into the looms power feeds, suspected and earth problem inside the loom so changed the entire loom. Still exactly the same.... anyone had this problem.... ?

Wow scrin needs help. We're all buggered.

I don't want to sound stupid and say scrin is the fuse blown?

What would cause this problem. Faulty cdi?

What happens when the battery is disconnected? What sort of power is going through the battery when the engines on. Is it charging properly?

Sorry those two consecutive were non related lol.

Yeah I was aware of that. Just bizzare why you would change the battery snd then find it not working.

No aint just changed the battery, I built the bike up from the frame and its the first time i have put a battery on it and fired it up. If no one has come across it before I will have to change everything bit by bit till i find the problem could be anything

Yeah now you mention it I did have a similar problem.

Was fuse area related. But the light ran off the genny so I don't know.

On the RE there is a little connector block whrte the two fuses are located. Inbetween the two fuses is a connector block. That wasn't seated correctly. Refitting it sorted that out.

With the temp gauge shooting straight to the top as soon as i switch the ignition on its earthing out somewhere and it should not. I will try another rev counter on it tomorrow and see what happens

Ignition is brand new, its working as its getting power out to the clocks and the switches for horn lights indicators as the temp gauge is working and so is the horn. Neutral light and oil light wont work nor will the indicators or brake lights, ive tried earthing the neutral switch and still nothing so need to try and earth it at the loom connector block and see what happens. Indicators could be the switches or the flasher unit gone so im going to swap the switches if still no joy ile bridge the flasher unit at the loom to get a circuit, the brake lights could be as simple as the bulb..........

And if none of the above works who knows lol.............

Fixed, bulb for the taillight, switch for the indicators needed a good clean on the terminals, broken wire for the neutral and oil lights and a dodgy temp guage just stuck another rev counter on it.........
