Alright, theres a tiny knocking noise that you can barely hear even when listening for it from my topend, probably just exhaust gasses, but i want to fit a new piston anyway, done 30k onit since ive owned it, an its still on origional size.

Was wonderingif there would be any point in me dropping the barrel off in grampian for a rebore? An if i go few sizes over would i notice a gain in power?

Also, i struggle getting the piston in the barrel once its fit to the conrod, anytips on fitting it in easier? Cant squeese the rings into the bore right haha

Sorry for dumb questions ;)

30k on original bore. Fck me that's an achievement. Is that miles or kilometers.

Yeah there is. If you have the barrel resleeved like nev and then bored. But that's just £££ you'd get better performance paying to have mick abbey do some work to it. But then you'll lose reliability and most certainly won't be doing 30k on it lol.

It may not need a rebore mate. It might just want a hone then new piston and rings. I wouldn't rebore it if I didn't need to.

Asfor getting rings in I do remember a tool you can buy. But to be honest you're probably bettrr off just learning how to do it properly.

Thanks for the advice mate, shop told me to get it honed and fit a fresh piston and should be fine. Doesnt really need one, no loss in power or compression but its been in along time an for piece of mind ill know tgeres a new one in it, but allways use silkolene comp and mever had a problem with it :)

an yeahh thats the best way i think haha, easy as anything fitting car piston, throw piston clamp on an few taps an it done, but i worry about snapping the rings on bikes, get too stressed hahaha

The barrel will distort. Not noticeable to the eye. It'll distort by microns but will definitely have an effect on compression and performance.

I done 23,000 miles on my original barrel. Then I had a recent re-bore to 56.65mm. Going to fit a new top end tomorrow.
