The incident, which involved a Yamaha DT 125 bike, happened at about 2.50am today directly outside the University Campus Suffolk building. Police and paramedics were called to the scene.
Police tried to resuscitate the rider, described as a man in his early 20s from Ipswich, and this was carried on by ambulance service personnel.
The man was taken to Ipswich Hospital but died a short time later.
The Waterfront was closed so an investigation could take place and recovery could be arranged the road re-opened at 8.15am.
Police say they were alerted at 2.35am today to reports of a motorbike which was riding at high speeds through the town centre.

Can't exactly slate the person. We've all done things we were not supposed to. For me I've been lucky to not have any issues. Obviously for this person, this was not the case.
I wasn't slating the person. Just saying, if it's thieves I have no sympathy.
Also, I ride around late at night, but not speeding through a town centre, as the article says. And on a Friday night when drunks are likely in the town having a night out.

I ride more cautiously now (to an extent) but looking back at my late teens I must have been damn lucky to not break any bones let alone die...
It's a shame in a lot of cases that people don't live to realise they need to act a bit safer - like an old mate of mine in very similar circumstances.
****ing hell, thats crazy. kinda makes me think about riding mine for the first time. I'm going to be well nerves on the roads. got to stay safe and not push your luck i guess
It isn't yourself to really worry about, it's others. Always be in the mindset that driver indicating to change lane / pull out of the junction hasn't seen me. Don't be on the horn or anything like that, but plan an exit or worse case scenario. Like if a car is waiting to pull out from a junction on my left, I'll move over to the right of my lane ready for an exit if it needs be, it also increases your visibility as the car pillar etc. SMIDSY weave is something I use as well.
Also if you're a person who won't be off-roading, just take the DTR set up off and buy a DTX set up. Granted the X set up is a wee bit expensive, but you'll save money on the off-road tyres as they go bald quick on the road.
r.i.p too the lad! hate hearing about bike crashes.
I nearly ended up through a glass bus stop the other day! first crash :/
mate wobbled off a problem in the road at about 25 i seen him wobble an new he was comin off an stupidly slowed down, he slid into my path i dodged him an his bike spun into my an wiped me into the curb, sliced up broken ribs maybe fractured shoulder but d came off with a snapped clutch lever :D rode it home when i was out of a&e.
Quite strong for an old 125 haha wost part was another lad diedin the exact spot i was lieing 5 years ago, paramedic said if they never moved the postbox further away from the road id be dead ! :o look after your selfs everyone :)
Tbf you can't really sue the police for doing their job, but then again they should know a life is more important than a license and thy should have followed him, not chased him
I am yet to find anythung relating to police chase and this rider. A sad true comment that I know definitely applies to me and countless others was left on his tribute page
Rhys bike was his freedom allowing him to explore life all over enjoying it with his friends. Our Rhys was brought into this world surrounded by love and his family, and he left us the same way, being surrounded by us those that loved him more than anything in this world."
I know you could say the same about me and my dt125. Rip Rhys, you can't have been that bad of a lad if you owned a dt :D
I hope whereever you are you are in a better place.
That topic really winds me up. The same thing happened when my bike was stolen. The police were told where the bike was, but because they cannot give chase, they didn't catch them.
Fair play to the coppers that did get it back, although trashed, I was glad to have it back.
