3MB or 3BN? Whats the fuss all about?

Hi all, went over to a forum members property to pick up a few parts that I needed. Whilst I was there I got to see a 3MB head and a 3BN head. Its been bugging me ever since but what is the difference? From what I can see there is one in the concave part of the head, it appears to be smaller. This is about the only forum out there with the sort of people who might know what its about, general forums not as much. Is there a significant one and if so, is it power or torque?

Most of the power that is generated inside an internal combustion engine comes from the cylinder head. From what is known as the squish band. The 3BN head has a nasty combustion ring that disrupts this squish band. The 3MB does not have this ring.

You will not find this ring on any race design. It has been a while since I read about cylinder heads. But believe me when I say Graham Bell dedicates a whole chapter of his book to cylinder heads. If you are at all interested then his book is well worth a read. Graham bell's two stroke tuning. Very interesting book. I believe someone has a digital copy although I bought mine. It was like my bible for a long time haha

Drop me a message and ill send a copy across if you want it. Very good read. Need to dedicate some time to it though and be prepared for a steep learning curve.

+1 on what cal said about the head though. The 3bn were restricted heads. I'm sure someone suggested it was to bring noise down too.

To be honest when I swapped over I noticed no gains.

Not saying that I didn't have any, just it was so small I couldn't notice it.
