Should I keep it ?

So the dts are preatty much gone. So now decided to go for something different and bought this crf for 630 quid . Counter balance shaft had dropped a bearing and snapped blocking the engine hopefully internally it ain't too bad but I don't think I can go wrong with a 2006 crf for that money. So now I'm going to rebuild the engine and maybe build it up as a supermoto and considering keeping it at the end and selling the husqvarna

Love the crf I had 2 05's! Great bike as an off-roader and would just as good a bike as a supermoto! Keep it and supermoto it! Just when rebuilding it replace the valves don't keep the standard they're like made of chocolate! I had a different set put in my second one by the shop can't remember what they was tho, ah that's cheap price tho my mate picked up a crf250 for 700 tho fully running ;) was on it's way out tho and eventually dropped a valve but j blame the person who done a top end on it as it sounded like the timing was out.

One of mine

Well got the bike today and the seller fked me up. The balance shaft has snapped cracking the left crankcase and blowing a hole into the crank. Unless I get some cheep crankcases I don't know if it's worth fixing

what would you price my CRF at Liam? as i dont know if its even worth repairing. buying the crank cases and balance shaft puts me at 300 alredy . plus the gaskets, and thats hoping nothing else has been destroyed. so minimum 1050 into it worst case scenario about 1300, for 1300 you can buy one thats all up and running alredy so if i et it sorted for a 1000 than it might be worth doing the work

You will probably be best off selling it as is, and turn a small profit.

But as most of us are stubborn you will probably throw money and time at it.

Then a love hate relationship set's in where you ride it like you stole it or it gathers dust, cause it owes you so much!?!?!

I know a guy who used to have a girlfriend, now he just hoards "money spinners"

As it is it's only really worth around 500 with the crank cases f.ucked, if I was you to keep a profit and also keep the bike get your eye out looking for either a cheap cr125 or 250 motor to drop into the frame be a lot cheaper than a buying a 4 stroke lump

i found a set of cases in america work out around 200 quid posted which aint too bad, they are of a 02 bike which i read are interchangeable from 02-08. so that comes up to 900 quid total, get the counter balance shaft for around 30 quid at most i recon and this wnt be too bad, better than selling it for 500 quid i guess

I know Liam won't liking me saying this, but worse case scenario you could break it for spares....

Also, I believe the Honda cr500 engine fits into those without too much trouble. Would have a beast of a bike with a 500cc 2 smoker

so if nothing else is gone in the engine than 1000 total spent on the bike which i reckon i could still flip for 1400-1500 when it comes to sell it

You use a courier without going to see it? As soon as I saw the cases were gone, I'd walk away. I bet it'll need a full rebuild. They usually do when they drop a valve/

i dont think it has dropped a valve. yep i didnt go to see it as it was 300 miles away i like to gamble too much and i thought for that money i cannot go wrong. yes Cal cr500 engine would be sweet but i aint got another grand sitting around to buy the cr engine :(

You reckon it might be cheaper to find a running smoker engine to go in there

doubt it
would cost me at least 300-400 quid for a cr 250 engine, plus the electrics exhaust etc just aint worth it, might aswell fix the 450 engine

Yeah true, it's all very well getting the engine, then it's the rest lmao! But still, could probably still be viable, if you sold the zaust and electrics. But I agree, bad I dea.

breaking it would be best but it will take months. i would stick a cr engine in it if i could find one at reasonable price

i have someone to come and take it tomorrow but if they dont i found a cr500 engine in usa for around 600 quid but needs crank big end bearing done, with that in mid maybe the whole bike would come up to around 1600 but we all know what these cr 500 monsters are worth :D so if the guy wnt take it tomorrow i might go for the cr engine
