What's The Most Stupid Thing You've Done On A Bike?

As per title. Let me begin.

I was at the petrol station in full gear, it was a sunny day. And there happened to be a long queue. So I'm waiting there to use the pumps sweating pints, finally managed to fill up. So off I go to hit the country lanes.

Hitting 60MPH on one road, bikes running fine. Hit another country lane after a right corner at a junction, getting back up to 60 again, the bikes spluttering. Wouldn't even do 50MPH, all the signs I had when I blew my topend last time apart from it heat seized and stalled out. Fearing the worst and 10 miles or so from home I decide I'm feathering it home. Got it home fearing the worst. Couldn't be bothered to strip it on the day, so left it in the shed.

After a sleep it dawned on me that I may have put diesel in my bike subconsciously. Well, you can already see where this is going. Went out in the shed, opened the petrol cap and can smell a faint whiff of diesel (I had about 3 litres of unleaded in and I premix so it's hard to tell) so got my brother to smell it as a second opinion, he agrees there's a whiff of diesel. So I syphon the tank, put some petrol I had laying in a jerry-can in and shook it about and emptied it again. Then a new spark plug, runs fine now. biggrin

Needless to say, I felt like a right pillock. Won't be making that mistake again, any time soon. Hah.

Yeah it's not too bad on petrols using diesels. The reason being that diesels add a lubricant to their fuels, which is why when you add petrol to a diesel you omit that lubricant and cause problems, I'm not saying let's all put diesel in but it's better that way than the other. I expect it's not even that bad on a two smoke since they need lots of oiling anyway lmao!

Yeah, it just fouled the plug up. So needed a replacement. Was only boggy and struggling on speed, other than that it was fine started first kick etc.

I will speak on behalf of my friend:

Replacing random bolts for shiny ones, sees the bolt holding the plastics on on the fuel tank, thinks ah nice i'll replace that for a nice shiny one, gets the old one out chucks it puts shiny one in starts doing it up, thinks oh this is getting tight... I'll just bust a bollock and force it; gets annoyed after fuel starts pissing onto the floor because he's gone through the fuel tank where he's used a bolt thats too long

A better time, as i mentioned on another topic, he came down one day and asked me why there is oil all over the back brake, i couldn't work it out at first because it was oil, i asked him if he had done an oil change recently he sais yeh, i started looking at the bolts to make sure he had done them up allright then noticed they were all leaking, even tbe gear lever seal was leaking... I said when you change your oil, did you CHANGE your oil... He goes na i just put a litre of fresh oil in

My faveroute one, he thought he would clean the disc brakes with wd-40 haha, he shouldn't be allowed near a bike really

I overtook a car before on a dual carriage way in the 2 foot of road between the line and metal railings doing about 110.

Can't remember why I was in such a hurry.

I actually like Victor's picture... Although that may be because I have a soft spot for that CBR.

What spec was it Victor?

It was an 88(first year) nc23 the previous owner had it on track and tuned by Greame France.

It was pocket rocket the front wheel would lift an inch or two if you gave it the beans.

I had it on 33bhp restrictors although it only took me 30 mins to pop them out which I did probably once a month when i was going somewhere decent.

p.s 16k rpm on a sports exhaust sounds like a f1 car wink

p.s... wouldn't get a black loud bike again, got pulled over all the time.

It's probably more to do with the fact that they're bored, and can hear the bike so automatically assume his riding fast.

And that is a lovely bike Victor. Do you not miss it? I'm looking at getting a 400 next year. Or a 600 Blandit and restricting it. :)

I do miss it, although my gsxr was better.

At the end of the day though I'm an adrenaline junky and will just lose my licence again.

I was only cruising home alone when I got caught speeding...61mph round a corner and well thats what they got me at I slammed on the brake's ofcourse

It was a 30 but no houses or anything and the road is about 30 foot wide and it was close to midnight.

I watch my speedo like a hawk on the DT even managed to clock up 3 points on that doing 48 in a 30 >.>.

When you get used to blasting down the dual carriage ways daily at 100+, 30 feels like walking speed on an empty road.

Which GSXR did you have? The 400 or 600?

And that's the problem with speed, always get caught. Personally if I was like that, I'd have no number plate they aren't catching a big bike.

Track days are where it's at, I had the 400 gk76a sp mint with 15k km for only...£1050

Some Ahole reversed out on me though and wrote it off, real one of a kind bike.

Gsxr was a smoother and faster ride and the gearbox was awesome, whereas the cbr had longer gears and handled corners better than anything out there.

Yeh your right, rather than hooning around gobto track days, make you realise how slow you ride compared to some people out there

Some lovely bikes you've had Victor. Shame about the GSXR being wrote off. :(

Nath had one think it was the same model as well, he put a stubby exhaust on sounded the business. He blew his engine iirc.

This could fit both topics. A few photos and also my lands end john o groats and back trip on untested bike with fresh engine and no breakdown cover.
