Coolant?

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for cheap coolant? I use putoline in my SX but it never drinks any and I rarely need to renew it as I really don't use it all that often.

Playing around with the DT/TDR engines is gonna make me poor unless I find a cheaper one though!

I know that! But as I will be playing about with the engines in terms of swapping them and then maybe giving the DT engine a new piston before I sell it inside the TDR, I will need to drain the coolant a couple of times. It'll get a bit costy at £8 a litre! Not sure how much to fill the DT or TDR yet though. Yeah just after some cheaper stuff!

Using cheap fluids etc for your bike can never be a good idea. Buy a decent quality one. If you're draining it down then just drain it into a bottle and pour it back in afterwards. Doesnt the DT only take a litre of coolant?

Also it's premix so yes it's £8 a litre but it'll be 50:50 ratio or something. Mines only got water in it at the mo. Keep telling myself I'm going to put coolant in it just never get round to it. For testinf purposes I just use water. I just never got round to changing it.

Water?! Won't that rust the **** out of I after a while?! I guess I'll start using water for testing then and putoline for when I have everything up and running nicely!

Rust? The engine is aluminium. And rust is simply Iron oxide. So long as you don't introduce oxygen lol.

Yeah probably but it won't hurt for the short term. Just with winter coming up I'd be more concerned with the water freezing

Yeah that's why you don't leave water in on its own, Halfords do 1 litre bottles of concentrated coolant suitable for alloy and steel engines for a fiver, mixes 50/50 so you get 2 litres 2:50 a litre bargain. Better than paying 7:99 a litre for Motul or something similar.
