Clutch cables Not fitting
Permalink

Hi Lads has anyone else had issue with clutch cables not fitting,

iv brought 8 so far ranging from genuine to quality aftermarket to complete S**t and none are the right length ether to small or too long,

bike is as it was out the factory clutch wise, just with a short lever, don't think that should cause a issue though.

cheers for any advice,

If I remember correctly, the after market one I bought a while ago was about 120cm and I had to curl the cable slightly to get it to fit as it was far too long. As for the stock one, I THINK it's about 90cm? Are you 100% sure you are routing it correctly?

cheers For The reply Mightyman

i should have explained better the outer casing length of the cable is not the issue, it fits perfectly.

the inner metal cable is usually to long.

i am pretty sure it is routed correctly as it goes through the holding bracket in front of the Rad and through the cable management on the neck of the frame

Oh I see what you mean. The only thing I could think of, provided you know you clutch / clutch arm is sound, would be that you need to fiddle around A LOT with the adjusters on the new clutch cable.

It's bought* you didn't bring them you bought them. Sorry but it really winds me up when people say brought.

If it's routed properly and you can't set it by a few mm then adjust the clutch itself beneath the clutch cover. 15 minute job to do.

Hi Lads

Looks like there are a few different lengths of cable you can buy for dt's,

for example

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361128586936%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

and

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-DT125R-clutch-cable-DT125RE-DT125X-1988-2008-fast-despatch-/360903495678

note the different lengths and the are multiple different lengths in different listings

i have brought genuine, and every other cable i have tried also, none fit at the moment i am temporary making my own although they don't last long,

this kit

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Motorcycle-Throttle-Clutch-Cable-Emergency-Repair-Kit-/131313509182

when i have found the right cable ill let you guys know

Cheers fellas

I've never had an aftermarket clutch cable that hasn't snapped in a few weeks...just saying.
