I saw a dude at the traffic lights yesterday on a road legal crf450....looked mega cool (Always wanted one). Anyways, his number plate was considerably smaller than the one I have on my sm.
I was just wondering what the smallest legal sized plate is, that I would be able to put on my bike?

9 x 7 if you have 7 characters
However if you have 1 it can be slightly smaller
There s a shop near me that make plates the bare minium siZe ( slightly smaller than but all letters spaced correct an makers mark present )
They will also make them smaller than legal size but you have to sign a form to say it's not fit road use
With a bike like the DT and even more so if you have a loud exhaust, I'd avoid illegal number plates. Mines illegal as it is, but only because it's missing the markings and has "DT125R" at the bottom. But it's legal size.
They just give the police an excuse to pull you over. I don't give them any grounds to pull me over, because I hate them pulling me over and wasting my time.
just another reason for the plod to get any easy pull. had a 9x3 plate on my fz 1000 my mate had a 9x6 on his zzr 1100 we both got pulled and were told it was to see if my bike was stolen. as I told the policeman if it had been nicked do you think we would have pulled over ??? I got a £40 pound fine (small number plate ) and my mate was let off . the letters and numbers were the same size and space just the plate size was different , its just some thing for them to pull you over for . I'm looking forward to being pulled all the time for non display of l plates when I get a dt.
