Changing front sprocket
Permalink

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere-I did look but couldn't find anything. Basically I'm considering changing the front sprocket on my TDR to a slightly bigger one (plus one or two teeth available from Wemoto) and would like to know if anyone's done this or if there's anything I should know before doing it! I'd just like the engine to use less revs when cruising at say 60-70 but don't know if a sprocket alone would do this. Obviously I'd lose out on acceleration a bit but the lower gears seem so close together I doubt this would be a problem.

Any info would be great,

Dave

Ive done it on mine m8 up 2 teeth gives a little more top end and smooths out the the accelereation worth it in my book

I think mine sproket is the same as an fzr250 lol

That sounds perfect, is it a nice easy straight swap? Will I need a puller of some sort? Thanks for the help,

Dave

Cool, I wasn't sure if I might need an extra couple of links in the chain or anything. Will order a sprocket on Monday and keep my fingers crossed! Thanks again

All sorted Haven't had a chance to ride it yet due to the wonderful English weather! Went on without a problem, although I did have to remove the rubber thing (guide?) from in front of the sprocket. Shouldn't effect anything though. Cheers for the advice guys

It's done everything I wanted it to basically! Now cruises at 65 at about 7000 rpm as opposed to about 9000. I think I probably should have gone for a 17T sprocket rather than the 18 if I did it again but it's certainly stretched the gears out and made it smoother
