hi is it possible to change crank shaft seal on clutch side without splitting engine? and should my gearbox oil be green? always have been in my time of owning just wondering since the oil i put in was yellow-ish and transparent
If you can remove it without damaging the mating surfaces then I don't see why not. It needs to be inserted via the clutch side. However, damage to the matching surfaces will result in loss of crank pressure. In other words, if you mess it up, it won't like it.
Splitting the cases, rebuilding the engine, and all the works involved can be as cheap or as expensive as you like. If you just do the seals then it's what £10 for the pair and some silicon sealant. Everything you would need for a basic rebuild will cost you £200 in parts. Plus a little bit of labour. To go forged add another £200. Cheap really. For £500 you can a completely fresh engine!
