Hi guys, as you know ive got my BEAST rm 250 that rides like a 125, basically my search for a 125 isn't going very well and trying to sell my rm is going ****e atm... Out of curiosity if i did end up keeping the rm what can i do to calm it the f*** down!?
all i know is the barrel has been ported, its got v-force reeds, and the carb has been up jetted for the pro circuit expanny
it looks like there are 2 gaskets on cylinder base, is this suppose to ease compression?
i want it to be like a proper 250 2, where its got abit of torque and a smooth band, not bog absoloutely nothing them BAM everything topend like a 125
Just grab an orignal RM 250 cylinder and put the jetting back to standard. A barrel shouldn't set you back too much. I bet you will get a lot of money for that ported barrel matey/
It will have a fly wheel. A heavier flywheel will make the engine less revvy. But for motorcross you want a lightweight flywheel to make the revs snappy!
Cause you've said it's been ported. When you port a two stroke you shift the peak power up the RPM scale, so getting a standard barrel for it will return the band to its normal place. That's all you would have to do.
Mate there will be some about. You just have to look. That, to me, sounds like your best option. You keep the best of both worlds then. The bike you know, with the power you're more familiar with.
Just a suggestion anyway. There are loads of the net. You just have to look.
Bare in mind most of those wanta replate, which is not cheap. That second before last one says it doesn't, but doesn't come with powervalves. You should be able to use yours.
It's more expensive but a replate is £200 so it's actually a cheaper option.

Literally just new base gasket, new piston, rings, small end bearing, gudgeon pin and then take the barrel off and the new barrel on. On a motorcross bike shouldn't take more than an hour with a cost of about £50. Really simple mate, and if you got a two stroke motocross bike then this is something you should be familiar with as they need to be done after x amount of hours anyway. When racing this would be done like every other if not every race.
Literally, easy. The only thing you can fck up is putting the piston in the wrong way round.
Mixed opinion on this. If it were a road bike I'd go forged Wossner. Bit more expensive but you get what you pay for. Mx could go Mitaka, be about £40-50. It's not much. Or go OEM. It's all preference. I don't know what the MX lads use. Serious people will swear by a forged piston. A lot of people who ride mx casually will swear by Mitaka. Some will use OEM.
Again, mx you need to change the piston, often and preferrably before it seizes, so I'd be half tempted to go Mitaka with the fact in mind I'd do another one before the end of the season, depending how often you ride.
So cal earlier you mentioned a replate, does this mean i can get the cylinder/barrel replated to return it to normal? What is a replate

A method of protecting the bore from damage. There are other methods of doing this, DT's for example you have a steel liner in the middle that protects the aluminium barrel. I've seen on higher application motors, Nikasil plated bores.
This method requires no steel liner, instead electrostatically plated bores coated in Nikasil allow you to run a piston on an aluminium bore without a steel liner. Only protected by the plating.
These types cannot be rebored. They are replated. If you damage the bore significantly then it will require welding. If an oversize piston is available then it's possible to bore and plate up.
If you get a new cylinder, I'll give you a hand swapping it over if you want. Although I'm sure your Dad has done a few piston changes in his time? My 125 cylinder looks a completely different colour to the bottom end as well lol.
So with them seals and that that came with it, what are they for? Do you think they are all the seals i need to do the exchange of the other components onto this cylinder? Then i would just need a top end rebuild kit? I can take the seals out seperately and get pics, cheers
