dont labour the engine. i wouldnt ride in the powerband for 200 miles and even then gradually build up revs.

I've been running in my dtr that's had a new top and bottom end I keped it at 5rpm for the first 100 mile an on my 2nd 100 I'm now taken 1st an 2nd gear up to 7rpm and the rest up to 6rpm and then once that 100 is done Il take 3rd up to 7rpm and keep 4,5,6 at 6rpm and so on. And that should take me upto 500 miles but even after that Il still be goin carefully till I've done 1000 miles.

this varies alot on who you ask

top =300 miles (dont make engine struggle and stay on the gears/and be nice etc )warm it up properly/cool it down properly/and dont stay at one rev range constantly or you will ridge your bore

full = 500-600 miles same as above (+dont over do it above the start of the band and do some plug chops to make sure your new bearings are gettin what they need

before you start your new engine each time :give it a few kicks while turned off  so oil and 2 stroke can move around all the new parts

just keep up and down the gearbox  and not too much engine braking and you are helping your lump alot

after a few miles go over your engine ,torqe all bolts again, and check for leaks

after 500-600 miles change tranny oil and flush it

let it warm up properly

dont do land speed record attempts

ride the first 50 miles carefull under 8k

slowly build up gearcahnges at higher rmps until 300miles

run 99 octane

some engine braking during run-in is good for your engine

but dont over do it

you will feel when your engine is runnig freely

get your bike warmed up alot

ok run your bike on a flat road and at different throttle openings flick the stop switch and pull the choke in

coast to a stop and take your plug out and check it

it should be a nice tan colour at every stop if not you have found the weak or rich spot in your jetting and at wich throttle position its happening

this will tell you all you need to know about your carb settings and wich way to adjust them

hope this helps

+ you done well holding it below 8k just try to stay outta the powerband for now

goodluck bud

Here's how I run mine in. full tank of petrol (about 85-90 miles) all below 6000rpm, after I filled it up again, took it easy for the first 20 miles and then smashed the tits off the old girl!

Runs sweet as a nut 1000 miles later :)

So after 110miles u smashed the tits out of it lol. Was that on just a topend rebuild mammoth? See so many of us have different ways of doin things. Mammoth would u do the same for a full engine rebuild? Is love to be able to give mine a good thrashing but don't wanna mess up the engine or end up losing power some miles later on. I'd guess. It would be ok to do about 60 70mph once engine is wormed up but I just dunno if id dare as I can't really fix bikes on the engine side. Still id have another go at topend tho. Maybe Il do it once I can afford my 175 kitt.

Yeah that was just on a piston replacement, I wouldn't recommend doing that if your running in a whole new cylinder etc! Afaic if you are only running in a new piston, you can be as cautious as you want, but I just got bored and impatient lol

Hehe.. yeah that's what I thought. Just bottom end is new I had a rebore an 25mil over size TZR piston. 209 miles done now so am taken 3rd gear up to 7rpm. It flys in the band with pv pinned open...

I'm guessing you mean 2.5mm, not 25mm, they are HUGELY different sizes!!! 209 miles? Give her a slap and see what happens I say lol

Edit: I will not be held responsible if you do decide to give it a spank and it pops... lol it won't but you never know!

Only ever given a bird a good slap as u call it... man it was messy lol.. but my very much loved dt I have just too much respect for. I'm gonna wait I think till I at least hit 500mile mark as its the one thing I can truly say I love in my life. The cylinder was standard but had the first size rebore the piston in it now is a 2.5. Little off topic here but what dose porting do and how much would I get from it? I mean would it be faster on top end or would bottom end be quicker? And would the topend last 20k ?
