dtr125.net say one way of setting the power valve up and the manual says to do it the the other way which is right for a 1990 dtr ..... there are 2 carb types flat slide and barrle slide ... can the flat slide be used  and if so wot jetting should be used

dtrnet says cross cables over if you do this the valve does indeed turn anti-clock but when engine is running valve is fully open at idle and close at high rpm manual says oppersite??

No on th early bikes as soon as you start the bike it closes the valve (anti-clockwise) and opens up (clockwise) when it get to 6000rpm or so.

The cables do cross on the early bike.

well i can safley say that i have tried it and it ran worse than it already is this is wot i have done
changed carb 28 flat slide(other as cracked)
main 190
pilot 22.5
needle on 5th clip
standard filter and air box
big one spany /tail
3wire servo set up to manual
standard gearing on c&s
rebored to 57mm

power band dont kick in till 7500 way to late and wont pull past 6thou in 4th/5th and still quite gutless through out

i have never had an engine give me so much tropuble setting up although it has been 20yrs since i played with a 2-stroke

Its normal for the powerband no to kick in till about 7000 rpm.

i think the standard flatside carb jet is 210,got two and both hav 210

This could be where your problem is.

Big One Expansion pipe? The one that comes straight off the head and gets rid of the twisty part of the standard pipe yeah?

I have just replaced my one of these for the same reason, no power below 8000rpm even with the servo.

There is a another post where we discussed it (titled powervalve, i think)

i have tried every jet from 240 down to 150 and the 190 is where it runs best

i would if i had one header was rotted out on other so i binned it
