yamaha dtr125 complete engine rebiuld need help put it all together and it wont start i have lined all the timing up but im not sure on the fuel timing in side there is like a scope thing but i didnt know where it had to be so left it where it was is that wat is stopping my bike from running thanks for all the help
Does the engine fuel? does it spark? does it run even for a second? If it sparks but still doesn't work check the elctrode gap on the spark plug as i had to re-adjust mine slightly after a rebuild. Also check the hoses that go on the cylinder head to the carb, i got them the wrong way round and i think it leaked coolant into the engine stopping it from starting (exhaust full of coolant after inspection). need more info
had it runing only wen i warmed up plug on the cooker them put petrol down the plug hole since i put water in cos its water cooled it wont run plenty of spark and fuel on plug wen i take it out i think i might of not lined up the fuel thing inside didnt know wat place to put it so left it where it was

The DTR engine is 2 stoke and doesnt have "timing" like 4-stroke engines. 2-stokes dont have valves to control air/gas intake and exhaust gases. The engine sucks in fuel, there is no pump. However the is a water pump and oil pump. So your getting fuel in to the engine and its sparking.......i would be looking at the carb setting first of all. Wind off the tick over and give it a kick; increase tickover slightly and kick. repeat this a couple of times and it may start to fire. Then check to electical setting....buts thats a whole other can of worms.
@darkangel, sound like you had a head gasket failiure. Cylinder head hoses shouldnt matter as i dont think there is a one way valve on them....
will try that i think there is two much fuel going into the system this morning wen i was kicking it over and had no exaust there was a lot of petrol spraying out of the hole and onto the floor i could probably say about half a cap full off a petrol can
no floats not stuck took carb apart everything is fine in there and the expantion thing dont know wat that is so aint got a clue how to sort that out and there is no petrol leaking out of the over flow
yes it was but wen i put new rings in i forgot to put the bearing in between the piston and conrod so naft everything up so then i had to get it repaired i have gad it running with no water in there since i put water in the system it wont start
if water is getting onto the spark plug i would have thought a gasket would be failing. check that everything is done up tightly and that the part of the cylinder head that protrudes and has a hose that goes to the radiator is all done up tightly.
thanks for all the help i decided to take the head back off looks like they didnt rebore it tidy as the ring twisted and took a big gouge out of the side so not enough compression so got to wait till morning now cos the engineer aint thereso wont be going out on it yet bit gutted but worth the wait
if you were sitting on the bike, the arrow on the top of the piston would be facing forward. speedy reply, by the way did you completely rebuild everthing? including the bottom end? how much movement does the conrod have sideways now?
very little play side to side and if the arrow has to be facing the front then i thing it must be my fault the arrow was facing the back of the bike not front
well took my head down to get it sorted cant have it done as it has been rebored to the max bit gutted but the guy is trying to find me a second hand head so see wat happens
