check for a spark, take the spark plug out of the hole, put the ht cap on, hold the plug next to the engine casing and kick the engine over with the ignition on

Might be a bit stupid but a mate did it on my bike to which I noticed straight away, ensure that when unscrewing the spark plug (if the HT lead was still on) that that top hasnt come off in the HT lead, if so just screw it back on and give it another go

Hope this helps

if there is little compression you might aswell use the haynes manual and strip the top end off and inspect it

allright mate , try heating the plug up till its warm screw it in fast as you can then try it,
also check if you have petrol leaking out of exhaust not pissing out but slight drips or strong smell,
if so could be rings gone.

you will save allot of money by looking at the top end yourself. its simple really and its very likely going to be something top end related due to the apparent lack of compression.

Buy a top end gasket kit (around 20 pounds, get it from wemoto if u want) and take your bike apart to the point where it has no fuel tank on. iv posted a guide on this site allready and there is a haynes manual here somewhere too.

It will take more then 3 hours the first time you do it.

if its leaking transmition oil from the rh engine casing i can tell you how to fix that, that happened to me.
If its leaking oil from around the middle-left of the engine it may be comming out of the oil seal on the gear lever which is an easy fix.
If it comming out directly from the center of the engine, then it needs to be taken to a mechanic and expect to pay allot.

my dt eats plugs for breakfast!!
exactly the same symptoms, you check for the spark and its there, then you put the plug back in and it wont fire under compression (load), just change the plug, works everytime !
ive had it where mine was sitting there quite happy ticking over then just coughed and stopped, wouldnt start, new plug and where away again..
happy days.
