Lo lads i need some help with my DT it seems like i can only get it up to 55mph unless im going down a big hill then i can get just over 60. I have taken the restrictor out of the speedo plus i have a DEP silencer on the bike anyone got any ideas what else i can do to make it faster? The bike has only done about 2500 miles so i know there is nothing wrong witn the engine.

mmm.. so it still goes to 60 and then nothing? Oh well i guess i wont be in any rush to either get a derestricted standard front pipe or a DEP front pipe.

Yes ive read those derestricting pages more than once, ive taken the bloke out of the speedo i didn't do the snorkel trick because its always raining here and i use the bike offroad through water. I don't have a welder and don't know how to weld so there for i can't cut the exhaust open and remove the restrictor.

I am thinking of buying a derestricted standard front pipe when i have some spare cash to see if that helps.

i have finally sorted it.

my powervalve was a tiny bit out. it is now fully open . i thought fully open was the holes lined up but its not i am about 5mm to the right and its great.
i now get 75mph up hill but havnt tried it on a straight yet.(damn traffic)
nice wheelies tho.smilesmile

Does it wheelie nice now that you've got your new pipe and power valve sorted mate? Othere than the speedo bloke removed and a new exhaust what else have you done to the bike?

it does wheelie good now.
the only things i have done is:

dep front bigone back
pegged the powervalve fully open (but right this time)
and when i changed my head gasket yesterday i cleaned the cylinder and piston and smoothed all the little lumps on my head with a very fine file.

there is no speedo restrictor in the 1998 so i havnt done that 1 lol
biggrin

and i have put a nice blue alloy brace on the front mudguard.
then ruined the bike with L plates

I've got a 98 DTR myself which i use 95% of the time off-road (the other 5% getting to the offroad location). By pegging the power valve open will it make it harder for me to get up the hills at lower revs i.e. less low end grunt? Obviously i don't need fast top end speed offroad.
Would be interested to know if anyone has any thoughts on this, are the restricting methods good for on road top speeds only or do they improve off road performance?
cheers

We should start a greenlaning thread in the Pic thread for our pics, just an idea.
