ive got a 1998 dtr125 with a bigone end can and a front dep.
i have fully opened the powervalve and locked it in place by taking a gear out of the servo and doing the cables tight so it cant turn. i am only getting 60mph downhill. i was getting the same with a restricted exhaust on and i thought the new1 would improve it. any1 know whats up.

confused

Good to hear you fixed it mate i was wondering why you weren't getting more mph out of it once you had fitted the new exhaust. Now i just need some cash to buy an unrestricted front pipe :).

Can't wait to see how you get on with trying a derestricted standard front pipe ive wanted to know if its better than a DEP myself for a while now. Your right some ppl do say the standard gutted is better.

i have now had it on a straight flat road and managed to push 80mph. then my mate flew past me on his drz400.

new sprockets on the way going for a 18 front and 42 back so should get more speed then.smile

Whats it like offroad, does it reduce you low end traction and stop you getting up hills?

Ive had a derestricted front pipe and they are just as good i suppose.

And why people lock their powervalves open is beyond me.  It gives you acceleration throughout the rev range, and by locking it open youve stopped that, so you wont have as good acceleration down at lower revs.

Nevermind eh.

i have only locked mine open cos it was closin at high revs in 5th and 6th. so by lockin it open i can get more revs. more revs= more speed..

i have a 1998 dtr

where exactly is the front pipe restricted ?

ive checked the manifold and and that bit has already been taken out

today i turned the power valve 180 degrees and put it back together, with the servo working still, and the acceleration is still good and instead of the power valve turning at lower revs and closing at 6/7, it starts working when it hits 7 and kicks right in, makes it like a different bike, also the exhaust tone changed and is deeper and better , its superb and the engine revs so much better and higher

i just gotta sort the exhaust now, i might de restrict the front pipe if it needs, and put a dep or big one on the rear

Polsta have you checked out the arrow exhaust systems? there cheeper than the dep(i think the whole system cost £190) I had a deristricted front pipe and have found the dep to be better still so i would geuss the arrow system will be better,i need a new front pipe as ive put a small hole in my dep but im undecided wether to get another dep or a complete arrow system for around the same price(well not too much more) than just the dep front pipe.Has anyone used/got a arrow system and if so whats it like?

Heres a link for you mate
http://www.stanstephens.com/exhausts.htm

The giannelli exhausts are even cheeper at £150 but im not sure if there road legal.

any idea what them gianelli are like ?

would it just be a matter of taking it off and puttting the standard on when its mot time ?  , would the police ever say anything if they spotted you with it ?

,the thing what puts me off about the dep is the price and the fact they dont last and can rust and dent easy, not so much the back bit but the front pipe

,all i wana get is some boysen power reeds and a full exhaust system asap really, im loving the bike with the power valve turned round, just need that exahaust to release the full potential !

so might go gianelli or arrow

I dont think the police would say anything mate and like you said you could just swap exhausts back around for the MOT,ive been thinking of getting a stage 3 tune but aint got the cash at the moment, stan is the best in the buisiness when it comes to 2 strokes and im sure it would make the bike ALOT better.

i reckon it would, might give them a ring but its pricey really !

im not sure weather to get it done now ot wait until just before the next mot in march ,when i might need a top end re build anyway and get it all done then, to save the aggro of taking the engine out now etc, as the engine is fine at the moment and the whole bike in general is spot on

exhaust is priorrety,im very interested to see how it goes with a decent one on it, just gotta decide, i might give stans helpline a quick ring and ask what one he thinks is best and the difference between gianelli-arrow-dep , and see what he has to say !

i think i prefer the matt black finish to the chrome style, as it doesnt have to be polished as much, rust wont show so much, and it can always be repainted and would generaly last longer ?

the gianelli exhaust is not road legel i had 1 on my gsm 50cc and it still passed the mot with 1 on so there shouldnt be any problems.

Ive heard the big one exhaust is badly made and infact rusts quicker than a dep, loads of people have said it on various forums, the giannelli isnt road legal because of the emissions it lets out but i think i would rather have one than a big one, look on youtube so you can see what the giannelli looks and sounds like,i quite like em and from the clock/speedo footage thats on there they perform just as well as a dep.

ok mate cheers

i just wana get a decent exhaust and get rid of the standard one, but £240 for a dep is a bit much really , £150 sounds better !!!!

so would you recomend the gianelli as a good one ?

i dont know what they sound like on a 125 but my 50 sounded louder with a gianelli than my dt did with a dep.

i just got my self a new bike after my dt got nicked i went over to the dark side and got a rs125furious slightley faster than my dt was tho.(110mph) still standard tho hopin to see 120 - 130 with a powervalve and a full jim lomas system.

I would say that giannelli is a good exhaust mate,on youtube nearly all the dtr owners from other countries have em instead of the dep and rate em,i would personly would go for the gianelli or the arrow system if you cant afford the dep.

Ive put some links up in the video section of some dts with giannelli, arrow and dep exhausts on so people can easily see what they look and sound like.
