DT 125 FORK SEALS HELP !!!

Ok i ordered a set of seals for my dt 125 1989!!! Took them to local mechanic to fit them and when he stripped my old ones off they were the wrong ones. I went back to the bike shop and they state they are the correct ones for my bike.

The seals that came out are 20mm thick and the new ones are half the size. Anyone know if the bike shop are giving me the wrong ones or any other ideas? The bike shop told me that the old ones have a built in dust seal but my mechanic ( a clever man ) swears blind that there isnt a built in dust seal. Any thoughts on this guys?

Put the bike shops ones in, the ones that are half the size, or put 2 in to accomodate for the empty space - not sure if thats too wise? But get the bike shop to fit them, along with a decent reciept stating what the've done...if it buggers up taking it too them and demand new, correct ones...sorted, lol, soon enough someone on here will have a technical answer to the problem but for now thats^^ and idea...good luck with it dude

I was born on the back of a dtr!! What you need to do is test the compression, you can do this by removing the exhaust, look inside and move the pistion down (By using kick start slowlly!!!) when you see the top, insert a used lollypop stick (the best ones are them walls ones with joke on, you can by 10 for a quid from heron). When stick is in place get a mate to kick it off, it the stick snaps then the bottom end bering is proberlly on its way out, so yeah new fork seals would be a good idea.

good luck mate!!

Haha....I've got a friend like that. He'd do a complete engine rebuild with a hammer, 2 chisels and a fork and do a fine job of it as well. I think there are only certain people with the knack for alternative methods though (generally these people are a bit crazy), the rest of us just buy tools cos if we didn't we'd probably lose a finger and end up not fixing anything. Resourcefulness is a virtue.

No, his name's Sam and he can almost fix anything with a good kick. But he really is crazy, his medication is usually cheap speed and White Lighting.

Dont see how 20 pound for a engine compression test expensive! my time is more than that after removing the exhuast and refitting it

I charge 35 pound a hour as a marine tech

And plus that doesnt prove nothin with a lolly pop stick lol thought it was a p!ss take
