Snorkel removal fact or fiction ? and bottle mod ?

having read about the snorkel on here, its un-clear weather it does actualy make any difference ?

in fact some posts say it gives a power loss and low and mid range ?

whats your views on before and after removal ?  ...does it give any power increase or not ?

my snorkel is still on the bike, is it worth removing or not ? and ... if i test it, do i just pull it out ? and is it easy to just pop it back in ?

also what is the air bottle mod thing people talk of ? is that applicable to a 1998 dtr ?

cheers

I took the snorkel off of my 98 dtr and it seemed to make a difference, can't be sure though as i did a couple of other small mods at the same time. beware though, if you do a lot of offroading or ride in dusty conditioins, it does mess-up your air filter which can then obviously effect performance.

it is pretty easy to pull off and you can re-attach it, well you can on mine anyway.
thanks

At one point i unplugged the powervalve servo, this gave it excellant top end but off road it was rubbish so i plugged it back in and simply turned it round. Also fitted and derestricted front pipe and removed the snorkel. Not much else i don't think and top speed is about 70 at a push (downhill haha).

I ride mainly offroad to be honest, thats what i got the bike for, so top speed isn't all that important to me as i rarely get out of 3rd. Can be a bit annoying when travelling to the offroad location though when all my mates are on bigger bikes :0)

how do you unplug the servo ? what does it do to mid range and acceleration ?

see i ride my bike 85% on road, off road its great as it is like you say you dont use the top gears,  id just like my bike to ride as it should un restricted and not struggle at the top end , just to be able to do 70 with ease would be good rather than struggle when you get to 55 to get over 60

if you unplug it all of the power is at the top end.....i wouldn't recommend it coz it means pulling away etc is rubbish. If you want to do it though you just need to remove the seat and tank and then follow the leads from the power valve and unplug them.....if i'm honest i never did it a mat of mine did, i just watched :0)

If i were you i'd just turn the powervalve round, which gives pretty much the same effect, do the exhaust and the snorkel and see what happens then look at other possible mods.

It doesn't matter if you remove the snorkel. It can flow more than enough air to be considered a restriction.
