YZ125 Engine Conversion
Permalink

Is it possible. Anyone done it.

Me and my mate had a race about a mile strecth road( closed privite one of course) hes got a standard yz125 07. and by the time i overtook him i had to brake and slow down.

He thought i was ridding ****, so we swapped and exactly the same.
I was wondering if anyone had down it!! i'm 17 so it needs to be a 125 engine.

the exhuats, engine mounts and eletrics need to be worked out.

Regards

Luke

anythings possible m8 if you got the tools and the know how

however you need to take into account that a yz is a motorcross and mx engines are tempremental to say the least and expensive to fix and if im honest not really worth the effort for such a small gain you would get

playing with your dt engine can give similar effects

Re: Baz's comments ..

Feat of engineering required ... Not worth the aggro / damage to DT engine mounts ..

LOT of maint' req' on YZ motor [unless you just ignore service schedules ! which will end in tears] what ?? top end re-build every 1000 miles ???

YZ 250 into an old DTR .. Now yer talking !!!

How quick was DT against ??
are you saying his took off like feck up to 65 .. then you scraped past @ 70 + & ran out of road ???

if you want to smoke him m8 just up the size of your rear sprocket it should give you the acceleration you need to get the jump on him but bear in mind you will loose some top end

yz 250 nahhh more like kx 500

ive been toying with the idea of engine changes but the engines i was thinkin of would get me certified no

ahh the list is endless m8 exhaust on 4 stokes aint a problem cos you can route em pretty much anywhere like i say anythings poss with the tools and the time

you would probably have to make the engine cradle bigger though to fit some of the above in but it could be done

Did anyone see the Dtr that had a 350 ypvs engine fitted in it.Real smart beast on 17" rims.It was featured in some bike mags.Apparently the engine fitment wasn't as hard as you would think.Basically cut off the bottom cradle and make a new one to suit the motor. It run stock ypvs pipes which was the only giveaway otherwise at first glance you wouldn't have noticed the conversion.Stonking bike!
If i find some pictures i'll post 'em up

If you do mate make sure it has the same style of exhaust system as the standard DT that under slung exhaust looks terrible I could never figure out why ppl would do that to a DT.

AAA ..

The pipes are the ones off the road bikes which match the engine ...

No one's gonna make a 350 PV pipe set for a DT ! So i guess they use what they can ! Cos' to make high level set from scratch takes time & money !

To be honest, if you were gonna go 2 Stroke, Twin in a DT, you would just buy a TDR as a start point !! Engine fits & high level pipes are propper Gucci 'Streethawk' Cool !

on the pavement !
... and the assesor looks at the wreckage & see's a 500 V4 RGV motor, where your 125 should be !!!
