but then gets smokey and dies with a bad plug.

checked as much as i can and running pre mix not oil pump

you really want to get some 2 stroke from a bike shop m8 and you want to pay a good price for it, the stuff you get from local petrol stations and asda ect will kill the crank bearings so always but the best you can afford

have you changed the plug since the fault developed? as i said running too rich knackers the electrode even on a brand new plug no amount of cleaning the electrode will fix this (i learnt the hard way ) you want a 40/1 mix for running in a new piston but if its been in for a while 35/1

am not too sure what and when youve changed stuff but i would advise you to empty the tank and drain the carb make a fresh mix and buy a new plug this will only cost you pennies so its worth doing just for piece of mind

1 other thing i know your running pre mix but have you unplugged the oil feed pipe to the inlet manifold i only say because if there are any dregs left in your oil tank it could be making your mix over rich too

checked oil pipes and no bone dry and blocked up

as for 2 stroke oil going to go to bike shop later and make up a 35/1

reeds can go brittle over time it cant do any harm replacing them it may be worth checking the stopper plate height on the reed block

it may possably be down to the oil your using m8 exessive smoke can only really be caused by the mix being too rich and with the running problems i would put my money on this being the cause

The spark plug is sparking the wrong way from the core to the outside not jumping

Use the standard NGK BR9ES or BR8ES
You sure the choke mechanism is releasing fully?
Does it run okay when first fired up from cold?

ok think i found fault today think it carb.

if u start bike turn of fuel and let it run for abit and start reving it gets to a point it runs sweet as a nut but then runs out of fuel if u turn the fuel back on after 30sec or so starts boging again so this would suggest over fueling.

i stripped carb again it looks all good apart from a bad looking mix screw with no o ring

i got jets on order but where can i get new needle and mix screw?
is it common for carbs to need new jets etc

Get the parts from yamaha or try Baz's speedshop. Its not really common for jets to wear but previous owners are the biggest problem fot dt's.All kind of bodges can take place before you get your hands on it.
It sounds as though the floats are rising too high and so flooding the bike.Check under the float valve for dirt and that it is sealing ok
