ANOTHER de-restriction post!!

On my quest to de-restriction i cut my xpanny open with a big grin on me face, waiting for some cresent shaped steel bits to be smiling back at me........guess what.......none there just a load of mesh which was holding in the baffling!!!!!!

Ripped them out and welded it back up. There is a difference but no red lining. Still only to 8000 then tapers off. Now all i can think of is maybe theres a newer cdi been fitted previously or a carb problem??? When the bike is idleing shes fine but if i rest her on the side stand the revs go all crappy and revs drop? Could this be a problem maybe?

As i said on a previous post ive tried to adjust the pv either way with the cables but still no revving over 8000.

Any sudgestions guys?

Cheers
Matt

There was baffling in the front pipe? Strange, never ever seen that before. What do you mean it was different?
The revs altering as it sits on its stand indicate a carb problem. The float height is more than likely wrong and not allowing enough fuel to sit in the bowl.As the fuel moves over to the side there isn't a high enough level to feed the jet.
I'd advise a good carb strip and clean.Pay attention to the main jet being clear, its size and the needle clip position

Gav when i say there was a difference i mean bottom end. It seemed more torquey if you know what i mean. Slight increase in power but nothing to get excited about. Like the exhaust im a bit "gutted" ha ha that i didnt totally de-restrict the bike.

Yeah there were no restrictors as such just wadding type material. Obviously stock 'cos it was machine spot welded in. Original exhaust?????

As far as the carb goes.... i kept breaking down when i first bought her...i stripped the tank n carb and found sh!t loads of rust n sediment in the chamber and tank. I cleaned all the bowl, jets, and lines then. Also fitted an inline filter for peace of mind. Maybe ill have to adjust the level eh.

This wont be revving problem you think gav??

This is bugging me now!furious

Try it without the fuel filter. It may be clogged and not passing enough fuel

94 ???

Should be pipe section dia' restrictor, not 2 crescent shapes ??

http://dtr125.net/tuningf.htm

Unless you have a later 04 on pipe fitted ?? [would it fit ??] with the re circulate pipe welded over, but the cat' convert still stuck in the fat part of the expanny up front ?

Yeah expanny it was and yes its a 94. Baffling is probably the correct term matey. Just gutted the whole exhaust n welded it back up. She sounds like a crosser now!!

The only piece i have on the flange of the exhaust is the ring which holds the gasket in place. And it looks nowt like the photos on here. Sorry for late reply, been busy. Cheers

Hi im new to the forum, i just thought i would share my knowledge and experiences on the whole derestriction thing. Ive owned 3 dt 125s over the past few years. My first one was an E- reg dt 125 lc mk3 (with the round barrel, and power valve) Totally differnt engine to the current models. I fitted aftermarket expanny and dep end can, rebuilt engine and just pinned the powervalve open. This was then good for 85+, and revved off the clock with no further mods. 2nd DT was a 1991 model, which i just fitted dep front pipe, big one rear, and pegged open powervalve, and then it was just as quick as the last one! Sold the bike a few years ago, and this weekend i bought a 2001 dt, which already had dep front and rear, and had the electronic servo kit for the power valve. Took off down the road, and i was so disapointed :(, was so flat, no power band, and struggled to hit 8000rpm.. went home disconnected servo and opened up powervalve, and it was still just as slow, then i read up about the reed switch in the speedo, it says on here just to put it to one side and 'do not disconnect!'. Took it for a spin, it was better, but still not great.. Well i thought b******s 2 it, I got out the continuity tester, tested between the 2 points on the reed switch and its normally open circuit! so i just followed the wires back, and disconnected them. Because The 2 contacts on the read switch are so close 2getha, its easy for the current to jump accross and make the circuit, which in turn restricts the spark, so its defo a good idea to cut it out alltogetha. Took it for a spin, and that totally transformed the bike, front wheel pops up in 1st and 2nd it now revs all the way up to the red, and is just as quick, if not quicker than my old dt's. Sorry for babbling on, hope this is of some help to ppl;

Deeyjay I have an 01 and its as flat as f u c k like yours was, I pulled the reed bloke out of the speedo and it made no difference I then bought a full after market exhaust and it made the bike better through the gears but still only done 63 mph. I think ill try what you done with the reeed and at some point pin the PV open.
