my mates been working on my bike and sayiing how much he likes it then last night said did i wanna sell it cause he thinks its got petrol in the gear box is that possible it rides fine it just uses more petrol than it should it was doing 23 miles to the gallon but i think that because the carb gasket is shot so im getting a new one.
oh and will a DT engine fit a 94 TDR125

ive seen it happen on old 4 strokes m8 if the carb floats get stuck it free flows petrol into the engine block ,thins the oil and goes bang ! leaving the petrol tap in the on position when not in use can also cause this
however the dtr engine is made up of seperate chambers the crank is seperate from the gearbox so it shouldent really happen unless something has gone tits up big style
what you want to look for is something that looks like conditioner in your little oil viewer window this happens when oil mixes with petrol also if you drop the oil and it looks pale and stinks of petty this could be a sign
normally when this happens the bike runs like ****e i find it unlikely on your bike but the dt is still surprising me with weird and wonderful faults so dont rule it out
i would say the dtr engine should fit the tdr but im not 100% as ive never had a tdr
the oil was like conditioner when i bought it since then i changed it and because there was some of the old oil in there i will have to change it again but its not gone like how it was before and ive rode the bike 70 miles and its not changed the oil, but oil will also go like that if theres water in too. the gear box smells petroly but that could just be the petrol thats leeking on to the gear box.
also the last person that owned it was a bit stupid i wouldnt put it ast them to put petrol in the gear box :)
also how dangerous is it if there was petrol in the gear box
does any one have a TDR125cc 94 engine out there or a DT125cc engine that would fit please as if there is petrol some how getting in the gear box im guessing its might be a pricey fix

it could be water but once again it shouldent be able to get in your gearbox it would just fill up your barrel
it may be a small fracture or a flaw in your casing somewhere which would explain why its gradually getting in there its not dangerous as in explode but it will knacker your engine as i said b4 its thinning down the oil so the bearings aint going to be getting lubed properly the result will be a seizure
as a quick fix i would renew the oil again then at least you could still ride it without immediate damage but it defo needs to be sorted with either a new engine or maybe a stripdown of yours to see whats going wrong
Cool so if it's filling up I'm guessing there should be an overflow or will it just keep getting fuller would it be possible for any one to do it or would it have to be machanic
i would hazard a guess and say its a crack or flaw where the 2 crank case halves meet if this is the case unless your handy with the spanners i wouldent attempt it it means stripping the whole engine
the oil should never be left to overflow and you want to change it as soon as it starts getting frothy again
without looking at your bike i can only go off what youve told me but before you start stripping stuff get the advise of a mechanic as it could me a much more simple fault

Are you or any one on this site local to Ipswich cause I know you guys know about these bike very well I would be happy to pay but I can't ride it too far just incase the problem is worse than first thought I live in Ipswich and it would be great help
Ok well hope some sees the post and can help thanks for all the advice and I hope it's just a little annoyance as even tho since I had the bike it caused problems I really like this bike so I dont wanna see it go
it could be the seals i spoke to a guy on the net and he said theres a seal for both petrol and water i belive which means both could have gone as the bikes 14 years old and done 40k and i didnt get a service history but if it is seals would that still require a strip of the engine and do you need special equipment for that or is it just spanners and tourqe wrenches but if all goes wrong i was told i can fit a dt engine in the bike does any one have one
Sounds like the water pump seal to me too.Not a hard job to change but an impact driver to get the side casing screws out is essential. Is the bike loosing water? There isn't a petrol seal in the motor. If he means crank seals then they can be replaced with the engine in the frame
it doesnt seem to be looseing water but i will check this is a bit of a relive to know that i can fix it i will be looking at the bike tomo so if i notice the bikes loosing water i will get a new seal
