well the guy just said he wanted £600 to take his DAS (actually ended up buying a nsr125). he tried to knock the price up afterwards to £700 but tbh it probably wasnt even worth £600. I knew it had had a fair few owners (im now the 15th!) and its still got the original engine.. Fker tied to blag me with the "its even only got 14k miles on the clocks)".. Its probably more like 34k.. anyhow I just wanted an old white DTR to go offroading....

It needed loads replacing before I even thought of SM'ing it.

forks (pitted + seals leaking.. hidden from MOT by gaitors)
near rear axle (siezed)
chain adjusters (knackered)
chain and sprockets
rear shock
petrol cap
rusty fuel in tank (nice!)
seat sponge knackered and its been chopped for a shortass)
front master cylinder

just off the top of my head.

As for SM'ing it. I paid £40 for mint 06 DTX forks with clamps and front axle. Near mint 07 DTX wheels for £125, Mint 07 DTX caliper for £35, mint 07 DTRE rear caliper + guard + mount for £40. New rear shock £30...... Will be rebuilt for around £1k inc price of the bike. Love it!

Did you get the DTX rear caliper to fit ?  I remember you had issues with them being different sizes

Personally I'd reccomend going for the 200WR motor as they are more powerful and possibly more available in the UK because you can get both the WR200 and the DT200WR engines (if lucky!).

The only difference between the two 200cc engines is that the WR200 is pre-mix but you can either live with that or retro fit an oil pump to the clutch cover....

thought about wr200 engine but they are way different to DT engine and I guessed it would be much more hassle/effort to get it in than a dt230.. A friend of mine is building a DT125R engine into a WR200 Chassis and nothing matches up so... definatly something for the future though as I know this engine WILL go pop!

seiki...

dtx rear caliper will fit mate.. just need one spacer or get an old one machined to fit...

Thought they were a straight swap, never really looked at my 200WR even though I had the engine out as I powder coated the frame.

dt200wr was the same bottom end as the dt125r (thats what I thought). just a bigger top end and the wr200 was just completely different.. more like a YZ..

WR200 is deffo different though as like I say, my mate has a WR200 chassis and the dt125r engine doesnt fit without modification..

Wow!

Just make sure it doesnt get too sloppy and the piston try and jump out via the exhaust port - mine did and I went from stock bore size to 2mm oversize in one hit :(

Ouch indeedy! proper miffed I was :(

Anyways it will be interesting to see what the 125 with the 200 engine goes like.

The DT200WR manual states that it has more bhp (slightly) than the 200R does, and the WR200 makes a little more power than the DT200WR so it should be quite nippy if you can get the pipe and carb etc all in there!
