bike will not run right since topping up 2 stroke oil
Permalink

hi all

i top up the 2 stroke bottle this morning ready for a day of riding...all was going well until i stopped the bike so we can have a drink and stuff 50miles in.....then the bike would not start at all it would just not fire at all....so we try to bump it and it fired up but would not tick over at all...but will run if a kept the revs up on it tryed to adjust the tick over at that did not make a different......so i got it home..at a steady 30mph as if a went any more it will just start to mis fire....

well i got home i had a look at the bottle of 2stroke and ready the back and it say for 2 stroke injectors and can be pre-mix at 50:1

now have used the wrong oil my mistake

many thanks if anyone can help me

oil too thick, revert back to old oil, castrol is thicker and higher grade, its a fecker for small 2 strokes

works great on bigger bikes

basically use that oil and set up carb for it and keep using it or

revert back to the old oil

its feckn great oil and will save a seizure although is a higher grade and too thick for your set up

it makes it hard to burn fuel when its too rich so makes it harder to start engine unless you bump it and more fuel goes through which will allow it to ignite better until you stop, the fuel becomes less and dies out again due to too much oil and not enough fuel

hope this helps mate

Is the castrol you put in Synthetic ... [now called FULLY SYNTHETIC ??]

or semi synthetic [now called Synthetic ??]

and what was in the tank ???

& have you mixed an old type oil [cheap $hite from petrol station] with a modern fully synthetic oil [or the other way !]

as i don't think the two will mix, in fact they may emulsify & form claggly lumps which MAY block up your oil feed system

there is no problem whatsoever mixing semi with fully synthetic 2t oil.
,i use castrol tts power1..have used it in modern and old strokers,...bit high on the price but never had any problems with it.

alrgt mate i reckon it will run fine on your bike if you always use it and your carb is set up for it but it is a thicker grade oil, all 2 strokes new or old can use it and is better to use it! although if your carb is set up for weaker grade it will cause this problem that dudley is getting, dont get me wrong its a good oil if your carbs set up for it

if you tweak carb and keep to that oil then thats cool

quick up date

after changing the 2 stroke oil back to wot i used before and clean the plug the bike will still not tick over or start on starter only starts if a bumb it and i have to keep the revs up to keep it running...

so have taken the carb off and given that a good clean with carb cleaner and checked the jets..

tried to adjust the tick over screw and it will still not run

so i am now running out of ideas what it is

it will still be in your oil pump and tubing mate, dont start the bike, disconnect the tube that comes from the oil pump to engine and pull throttle open and close until you have pushed the old s**t out, then reconnect and try that mate, is there compression too?

The idle part of the fuelling circuit is blocked.Clean the carb spotless.Take the pilot jet out and blow it through with compressed air.
If this is blocked it will not start and not idle.It will only fire after bumping because the engine has vaccumed more fuel through.
The castrol oil you are using is fine.I've never heard of it blocking oil lines.

hi there

clean the carb today mate did all that what you say...it looks like new carb......spoke to a few people today they said the same thing ever time mate castrol is a to high grade for a small 2stroke so it not burning it so it keeps on fouling the plug....

but i have just found out after testing the pump that the 2stroke pump as ****ed up and so i have spat a ring stright into my exhaust...(lucky)

so going onto pre-mix now and going to replace the ring in the morning

well the bike is up and running agen now it as spat both piston ring to bits....and the oil pump had given up the ghost aswell...what the best ratio to run the bike on for pre-mix i am going to take a guess at 50;1

this the damage to the piston

40:1 mix is good for a streetbike

Dont forget that if you close the throttle on a pre-mixed bike then your engine is getting no lubrication, bear that in mind when coasting down a long hill.....

Personally I'd get another pump as normally they are very reliable.

if you have not got the autolube set you will have to pre mix....so when you fill up you need to add 2stroke oil to the fuel
