for the price of rebuilding a front wheel with sm rim you could buy a whole dtx front end.. my wheels were £125, forks £40, caliper £35.. £200 would get you a front wheel sm rebuild but you'd still have the small disc and single pot caliper... And would still need at least £50 for a front tyre..
rebuild wheels + tyres - at least £500 sm wheels plus forks/caliper £300-£400 max plus better braking
or buy the dtx wheels and fabricate a bracket - £200 max
could also buy a set of wheels for say £200. sell the front for £100. so youd get a rear wheel that would bolt on Waaaaay cheaper than rebuilding. Then with the £100 add another at least £200 and get the front rebuilt..
full conversion for the win + cheaper by miles..

yeh i know what your saying and i knew you had gone through it all yourself. You could buy a set of dtx wheels for £200, then have the dtre wheels rebuilt with the sm rims (if the amount of spoke holes are the same! back dtx hubs are identical but front is different) would cost the price of spokes (as the spokes are longer on the 21inch wheel) and rebuild.. oh and not forgetting the speedo drive which is like rocking horse **** to find..
cost of new spokes + rebuild is gonna be close to £200. couldve bought forks and caliper for that and have better braking... and then still have all the original forks + wheels to convert back later or sell to cover cost of converting..

if you want to be able to take it offroad still id personally buy another set of hubs and get em built onto sm rims.. straight swap over then.. will cost more though.. if you buy dtx conversion then you gotta swap forks over every time you wanna go offroad..

sorry to bring back a old thread but iv looked and cant find any and was wonder if anyone new if there was a a template to make a bracket to fit a normal dtr calaper to a dtx excell rim/dtx break disk
They bolt straight on, and you can have the original or brembo caliper on the standard forks. All you have to do is make a BRACKET out of steel give it a quick coat of paint and your good to go!
