Bike is fooobar once again....Left hand crank bearing makeing an awefull noise.
Back to square one. Engine out and a rebuild of the bottom end. I got a feeling its the old crank that has caused the bearing to live a short life. After 2K miles.
I think the crank has come out of true. Even tho the bottom conrod bearing is ok. the crank has i think is not dead straight. I always felt a bit of vibration on my bike more than others i have ridden. That would explain it.
SO. another crank out of a crashed damaged bike that done less than 3K miles. 2 more new bearings and new seals. 40 quid i paid for the crank and 37 quid for the two 6305R1 Koyo bearings.
For u crazy the bearings i got from ICS in saltash, have the, in stock, plus ther are a main dealer for koyo.
no probs, cheapest i can find on the bearings.. remember they are Koyo 6305R1 main bearings not the standard 6305 ones.
The crank can be sent to stan stevens for a new conrod/bearing and true/align, not cheap when u send ur old crank off @90 quid a go. Peace of mind tho, when u rebuild. That and main bearings/seals, your are looking at a good £150.
Mind u, a bike work shop for all that and labour, u aint gone get much change from 400 quid. make sence doing it your self tho.
if u need a hand dont hesitate to ask. ive got the cluch holding tool.
may grab the clutch holding tool mate, conrod fine, just needs new main bearings ans seals, gasket set, piston, rings, head skimmed just need the bits will do it in a day
bike has come now off the road to have a bit of TLC. 3000 miles since the head build and bottom end rebuild. so we start again. This time another crank and another set of bearings.
the DT has aquired some vibration on the crank and took out one of the bearings.
The venue is my shack in my flat. Went up a flight of stairs as i live on the first floor. Took two of us to get the DT in. Now i will be all warm n cosy. yipppeee
Thats alsome are you a mechanic ? I want to strip my bike so i can get the frame re-srayed its going rusty in spots, how hard is it to completly strip everything off the frame ?

I dont want to take the engine apart, just take it off and everything else so i can send the frame away for powder coating. I emagine getting the wheels back on in the right place is the hardest thing ??
What about yours is it back together yet ?

i done a project a couple of years ago. Found a 1976 CB125 in a bottom of a garden on its side. greass was growing threw its wheels. In a right royal mess.
Given to me for nothing.
It took me 2 months to get to this...
every nuts and bolt was either replaced or cleaned and painted. Some new parts were bought from a scrappy. Lots of elbow grease. My wepon of choice is a wire wheels on a drill.
once evey part was renovated its just a reassemble. But the engine was the hardest bit. it needed lots of TLC.
nothing is impossible, just lots of time, huge dose of labour. But the end product is awsome.
My DTR is getting there.. will be finished by morra..
nice1 mate i like your bike shelter lol, good effort lol, be worth it for sure, any chance you got that number for bearings in saltash? ps whats the price for each main bearing? could do with nipping over, alot easier and handy too as a contact, also i have a spare barrel here just give me a shout if you need it, dont want much for it or can swop for some project parts i need thats if you got em lol
Industrial Component Supplies Unit 4 Libby Court, Kingsmill Rd, tamar View Ind Estate, SALTASH, PL12 6LD
thats a main dealer for Koyo. the bearings are 6305R1
I just walked i off the street, supply to the public.. and it was 18 quid somthin each. Cheaper than any where on the net.
Sure will love the barrel, all i got as spares is rear brake caliper/shaft/carrier/spacers also a rear wheel too. in V good cont. if your after any of them.
The bike was a nightmare to get up the steps into the flat, went down faster..lol wished i lived on the ground floor!
back toghter again like the cheeks of my ass!
Running sweet too, except the huge oil slick when i went for a spin. Forgot the front sproket bush. ooppps.. ten mins later all done..
