may want to go up a jet size or 2 mate, due to the added air intake

dunno why everyones so worryed about taking the snorkle out lol, cut the top off my airbox jetted to suit, sounds awesome and extra power, just need to get a good seal between the seat and mudguard for fording at speed offroad, whether its breathing though that tiny straw or open top its going to suck rubbish in that the airfilters there to stop, its just another yamaha restriction, used to do pre65 trials with a bellmouth on the carb and a mesh to stop the bigger bits getting in, probably made the rebores a little sooner but worth the effort, the airbox is designed to be able to handle a certain amount of water and let it drain, theres more meat on the standard filter than a pod yet most don't seem that fussed about fitting them and with the snorkle out its still enclosed upto about waist height!

So what is the Overall verdict? O.o shall i keep mine on or take it off? i do less than 50 miles a week, all onroad but those miles i do do, i tend to push it quite hard. :/

EH? There is no added air intake! The snorkel is only about keeping muck out, not less air in. There is absolutely no need at all to alter jetting if you remove the snorkel, which incidently makes no difference to power production either.

Leave it on - it makes no difference to performance and helps keep your filter that tiny bit cleaner.

How does the snorkel look like? Is it located right under the seat?
I got just hole in my airbox so is the snorkel removed?

I say on ... after a good ride or over time lift the seat you will see the crap and dust that gets on top of air box with the snorkle it is hard for that crap to find its way in to air box but without snorkle it gets in there easy along with any water that finds its way in that space ..

Mines been off for a while now (and drilled) could only just manage to get 60mph out of her anything after 50 was a slow and painfull, snorkel off bike revs up quicker and is up to 60 in no time
You guys think there is so much dust etc out there that your filter will clog up in no time???

My old man is running stacks on his classic Ducati 860gs with no filters? Wow eh...
I've ran offroad bikes with no filter box just k&n filter on the carb.
Listen if your going through puddles half way up your wheels at 60mph you might get some in your filter box but I've done that green laining and with the box drilled on the side there has been no problems what so ever I've spent all Sunday every week for a month green laining aswell as using it everyday for work and I've only cleaned the filter once.

Yes yamaha designed it that way they also designed the reed switch but we all go removing that dont we.
If your bike is struggling for air and won't go past 50mph and you have fully derestricted it then get the snorkel off and give it a go.
I noticed when I bought mine it was fully derestricted as the seller says but wouldn't redline so out with the reed switch then I could tell there wasn't enough air getting to her and was struggling to pull so off with snorkel hey presto 70+mph happy days

Oh and another thing the vacuum of the air going through the snorkel is just gonna suck anything that gets under the seat anyway basicly removing it is taking off the bend so the engine doesn't have to work so hard to breath.
Doesn't matter how dust forms falls etc add vacuum to the mix and that **** gets sucked in.

Unless someone wants to tell me dyson his Hoover is a liar!
I feel people are looking to hard to find reasons why its there-snorkel isn't a problem on a stock bike but not many of us have them

The problem is that if your bike is struggling for revs then there is something amiss. And surely yo're better off finding out whats the matter rather than drilling holes into the air box.

I've got a few mods on mine
Full dep, carbon reeds,3bn00 cylinder second last bore, 3mb head and all derestricted!
She pulls hard but I'm missing rev range from 9500k + so I get 75mph tops.
Ill have to get my power valve grinded and put in as I think its effecting the bike

would like to say all my other posts in this thread where with standard barrel and head so I'm not contradicting myself lol

cheers

ken

That's only if you're getting piston slap mate i'm actually pretty shocked at mine got super short gearing on and it still pulls to a true 80mph but i'm gonna gear it more for top end :P i have no first gear at all so that's how short the gearing is on mine, mac rpm she's revved to is just under 13k

With the bore being large I've been advised that when piston expands there is a chance it will come into contact with powervalve!
My gears are also short I've been heading for the 80mark but had to back off as the filth was coming behind, once I get this valve sorted ill be off like a shot

Sounds like my bike. I got great power on lower revs and lower speed but topend is quite crap. Max power is at 1/4 - 1/2 throttle, and 1/2 throttle - MAX you can feel it slowing down slightly when in 6th gear. Going to try a bigger mainjet, and if that doesnt solve it, I'll probably get a tmx30 carb. Also going to decoke the exhaust some day

also I have 17-57, and under most conditions it will pull good in 6th gear, but I dont have any topend revs

Placebo effect dude. Just cause you can hear the induction noise.

It might if you had bigger jets to compensate the extra air.
