Theres some big chunks taken out of it.Looks like the ring snapped and was just sitting in the groove for a while, until today when it finally slipped out taking chunks of piston and bore with it.
Still cant find the snapped off piece of piston either which would mean having to split the cases  aswell.

Yeah just a bit,but it happens.

Pretty much, due to the cost involved.(although i'll take it to the engineers tomorrow just incase it can be repaired.)

Since the day i bought it biggrin

The sleeve isn't removable,it's all one piece.

I asked over on bcf if it's repairable and kickstart (the oracle) said it should be an easy repair.biggrin

I'll see if i can get it welded up and re-plated locally *fingers crossed*

Mines definately not one of those re-sleevable ones though.

Well, dtrcrazy dude you were right, i can get a liner fitted to it biggrin

So i took the cylinder over to ard racing today.
He advised me to get the liner fitted because i'll get 4 re-bore's out of that one liner (re-bore is only £20)
In regards to power loss,he say's i wont notice the power loss at all,it would only be slightly noticable on a dyno.

So cost of the liner is £150 (nikasil was only £30 more) then however much wiseco charge me for the new piston & rings.

Not too bad at all considering i thought it was un-fixable  :D

Thanks for the reply's

It would be good to get a used one,but unfortunately i cant.I have even been looking on yahoo auctions japan and still no luck, repair is the only option.

It doesn't end at £150 either there's the price of the piston and rings (around £100) and gaskets (£30) plus new coolant(£10) so total = around £300 quid no

Such is life biggrin

It's being ordered from wiseco, who dont actually list my piston so one may have to be made up.Either way it's going to be around the £100 mark.
At least i know it'll be a good quality piston so it's worth it.

wiseco are pretty much the same price as gen yam.. just they are racing pistons so they are lighter and prob not as dureable.. and as for the price of dt pistons.. a gen one is like £70, rings a £20 a set.. can get pattern kits for £25 but I wouldnt unles u were gonna sell it pronto!

and £600 a barrel.. they are taking the piss out of you.. a dt125r barrel is only £300.. and the 230 looks exactly the same. prob is the same just 230 bore..

£10 for coolant?!?! £2 for a litre of antifreeze and mix 50:50 with water.. exactly the same...

gaskets shouldnt be too expensive either.. gen (dont by pattern for head gasket) head gasket on a dt125r is only £10

and just noticed too. your 230 got some well cool rad guard! rad is on different side to a dt125re aswell.. never noticed before..

I think it's more about the demand. The 125 is a LOT more popular than the 230 so when there's no demand they charge stupid prices...

I'd still rather buy the genuine stuff which is ready mixed biggrin i like thing's to be right.

When it comes to engine parts (or highly stressed parts) i only use genuine stuff.£25 is the price from yamaha.
As above, there's not a huge demand for the 230 gaskets so they put the price up.

It has a radiator on both sides biggrin
