Just got my bike out the shed this morning and thought id have check over ov her make sure everything was ok and i noticed something i havent noticed before.

My bottom end has 3BN 03 on it
Cylinder has 3MB 00
Head 3BN

They all have Y1 stamped on them but why does they cylinder part number not match the others? I was thinking maybe the cylinder has been replaced or something?? I could be totally wrong tho!!! lol

Anyone any ideas??

I remember Dee Tee saying something about changing his head to a different one for some reason???

Thanks

Your bike is like mine, is it an import? any French sticker near the rack? kmh clock?

it isnt a problem though but there are two very different heads
I can show you pics if youre interested.

Thanks for replying mate!!

From what i know my bike isnt an import. It has mph clocks and i havent seen any french stickers at all (my frame has been stripped and powder coated tho).

Yes im interested in seeing the pics. I have read a thread over on YOC (im a lurker on there) with a couple of pics. Thats where i saw about you wanting to fit a different head.

Are those parts standard then or has something been changed in the past?

Cheerz buddy

No the 3BN and 3MB are both standard, I think the 3BN is something to do with noise control or something, it will be interesting to see what you guys have fitted, I think DTRE's are 3MB heads and I'm not sure about DTR's probably a mix of the two.
anyway mines a DTR 2003 import with a 3BN.....for now wink

3BN

3MB

As you can see the heads have very different profiles where the squish band is, the 3MB is a more traditional high performance profile, the 3BN is something very different and is a new one on me

Cheerz for that mate so the head is standard then.

What im also wondering is why the bottom end and cylinder parts numbers are different? What are the numbers on your bottom end and cylinder mate? Coz ive got a 3BN 03 bottom end and a 3MB 00 cylinder!!

Yeah, when I said yours is like mine, I mean exactly like mine
As far as I know, all cylinders are 3MB00
Dont know about engines, I assume there will be different ones
And the two different heads as mentioned

Anyone care to add to the list ?

Yep, im the same as you two.

I did think it was weird at the time, them not matching, but hey!

if the other head makes a diff, let me know :D

Also, from the pics i mean, the 3MB head doesnt appear to have a 'lip' around the area you called the squish bit.

It may be a high compression head. Maybe, just a thought.

Look around the squish zone.. on the 3MB, its tiny, on the 3RN its bigger!

Not i'm just guessing here but I think the 3MB will have the higher compression of the two, I may do a compression test before and after, so for eack head. Providing I can get my gauge into that painfully small gap.
