Alright guys, I decided to clean my carb out at the weekend as the revs kept sticking. All went well untill my liltle bro decided to squeeze the rad pipe and coolant poured all over the engine. I cleaned it up and it didn't look like any got inside. I've put the bike back together but now it won't rev past 5-6000. I've tried changing the plug, cap, cutting ht lead back and coating it in wd40 but still no luck. I've been Reading through similar threads and the only thing I can think of next is a new coil, but I was wondering if there was anything else I can try before I buy a new one.

How can you be sure that no coolant got in the engine?

Scenario ?

Carb off, water/coolant may have got into crancase via hole where reeds went ???

Possible or not possible ? [i wasn't there !]

If water did get into engine, would it just be into the crankcase ??

Water in crankcase would play holy $hit with induction ... and run like a pig !

If you suspect it is water sloshing about in crankcase ? Remove carb / reeds & point 2Kw heater @ engine for 2 hours to dry out before rust sets in !!!

But TBH this scenarios all a bit $hit ! If you ran the engine at tickover for 15 mins, the massive heat would dry / fook the water off out of the case via the exhaust !!

Confused ?

You had a working bike .. but the revs were sticking on ??

But it ran well & revved ?

Then you stripped the carb [mebbe gave it a drink !] .. put the carb back on ..

and straight away it wouldn't run past 5 / 6000 rpm ...

What makes you think it's electrical ???

water en the engine wont matter after a copple miles it will all dry out might be in the bottom of the float bowl you can try t drain it with the drain screw but it usaly dont drain the carb full better totake the carb bowl off and blow it out

Go thanks for the replies. I feel a right c**k! Took the carb back of to check it and found the main jet in the float bowl, looks like I didn't tighten it up enough. Put it back in and tightened it right up and now it runs. Like a dream, a lot more pokey and tries to pick the front up in third now. Well happy!!
