I have an 04 plate DTRE, basically what i did was add a kickstart to it, sounds simple i know.. But rather than reading the haynes manual and putting the bike in gear i tried holding the clutch in place with some screwdrivers and broke the clutch housing and clutch centre
I've since replaced them and put all the plates back in properly and put the pressure plate back on, the problem i have now is that i dont know how to set up the pushrod (The thing in the middle of the pressure plate with a bolt on top)
Everytime i do it my clutch just dont feel right and it seems like i have no biting point, when i pull the lever the clutch is right there straight away, and sometimes when im ragging my bike at top end it seems to be screaming but it's not really pulling so i think the clutch is dragging a little bit.
I want my biting point back and it to carry on pulling like it used to, also how can i adjust the clutch so my biting point is in the middle of when im pulling the lever in if you know what i mean? I dont want it there straight away i want it about midway..
This forum's been dead the last week or so, so any help would be really appreciated
Remove the clutch cable and remove clutch housing...
Slacken pushrod locknut.
Push the clutch lifting arm right forward then screw the pushrod in until the pointer of the clutch lifting arm lines with the mark on the crankcase. do up locknut and your done...
Fine adjustments are made via the top and bottom adjusters on the clutch cable...

It might just be me been paranoid because i've changed my DEP expansion chamber for my gutted standard and the powerband is probably at a different rev range, but i'd still like my clutch to start biting about the midway point on the lever rather than the first few mm as soon as i pull it in
It sounds to me like you just need to adjust the tension on the clutch cable ? Am i missing something ?
If you can't get enough tension on the cable using the 2 adjusters then either your clutch cable has stretched, clutch plates too badly worn or something in the area of the pushrod is wrong (which is why i asked about the ball bearing)
It does have tension there and the clutch does work, it's just as soon as i pull the lever the clutch is right there, i'd rather pull the lever in halfway and then i get a biting point and then pull the lever in even more and the clutch is fully engaged.
My cable has only had about 4000 miles use so it cant be that badly stretched surely, clutch plates might be worn because the last time i did it it dragged, how would i check these? And i might have lost the ball bearing because of how many times i've had my clutch on and off,
Might have a go at the weekend, check the clutch plates and check to see if i have a ball bearing in there
At this rate im gonna have to buy another side casing gasket lol

Try adjusting the slack on the cable first, that'll move the biting point... (either give it some slack or give it more tension)
To find out if the friction plates are worn just measure them (tolerances in the workshop manual) with a caliper gauge.
From what your describing i'm almost certain you just need to adjust the cables...
So how would i go about setting the cables up? Everytime i've done it i've just tightened it up quite abit down the left side near the engine and just nipped it up at the handlebars until it was tight but not overly tight if you know what i mean?
Im gonna mess with the cables tomorrow and hopefully it will solve my problem, thats alot better then taking it to pieces yet again
Yeah cheers for helping me out, i'm glad i got it sorted rather then having to take the side casing off yet again lol
I would never have mentioned taking the casing back off, but i jumped to the assumption that you would have tried the basics in which case the only options would have been to remove the casing...
