Ok so my bike just suddenly stopped starting on the electric starter (no kick start). Started in the morning, I drove to work. After work it wouldn't start. It was my first time at work with the bike and a few people went out to look so I assumed they flooded it as I forgot to turn the fuel off. So I turned the fuel to off and hit the starter for a bit until the bike got a bit of life ( around 10 min later).. turned fuel on and it started very weak, then built up.
I assumed the problem was flooding so drove home no problem, parked the bike up and ate dinner. Went to go out about an hour and half later. Same problem.
I knew it wasn't flooded. But I turned fuel off to clear it out. Then fuel on and tried to start... nothing. So I pushed the bike forward and back a few meters while trying to start, the headlight got brighter, wee bit of life in the starting sound and then finally started, but again very weak.
Drove to my friends house. Left about 3 hours later. Wouldn't start! I was 1 in the morning so I wasn't standing out all night so I pushed it up a big hill at his and bump started in first gear.. flying home!
First I thought weak battery because of the light being dull and then brightning when I was pushing the bike forward and back. But the electric starter is turning over ok and at it's normal speed etc. Battery doesn't sound weakened.
So what could the problem be?
I read on the internet somewhere to clean the carb and the air filter.. I don't know how to start aobut cleaning the carb. Everyone must assume we all have Haynes manuals or aren't bike newbies lol.
Compression tester just screws into the spark plug hole then you crank the engine over at WOT. Should be fine if it's only done 3k though. Maybe it is just the carb flooding, mine flooded the whole engine and spanny the other day lol, had to take the exhaust off and tip the petrol out.
Same here unless its a boiling day, if i leave my bike more than 3-4 hours on a normal 10-15 degree day somtimes i need choke, if its sunny i can leave it a while and no choke needed but if its cold i need to use choke to start it an hour maybe hour and half after stopping.
Not as stupid as what I am gonna say but then I have never dealt in the newer DT's I always thought or just presumed the DT's 04 onwards were automatic chokes and not manual???
ah yeah i wont use the choke either if i stop to get petrol or something or leave it for an hour. If it's still fairly warm it's normally good to start without choke.
It seems that it takes a few more tries to get started sometimes especially on cold mornings or if i havn't used it for a while - this normal?
Mine always needs choke if its cold, so over an hour basically. Tho i did notice it started the other day without after being left for 5 hours cold but it stalled without choke. Generally mine starts instantly on the press of the starter. Always been very good like that.

To be honest mate half the time I cant be bothered to get the bike out lol, I love riding it like we all do, but after putting it back in its bike home, locking it all up, turning switches off, and all the anti theft stuff, it does take its toll, it should of been sold by now but have kept it, as the other thing I was gonna do fell through, so for now will keep mine, although have had some offers on it !!!!!
