well iv recentley done a top end rebuild on my bike rebore piston etc all new gaskets... since its been back on the road iv been loseing water couldnt see where it was leaking from at 1st but today i noticed there was a trale of water following me as i road down the street... its coming from my expansian bottle overflow down thru frame ... does any1 no what the problem is and how to sort it out? cheers
Did you use genuine gaskets? If not, you will need to replace the head gasket with genuine. If you did, then the head is probably warped, in which case have the head skimmed at an engineering firm, or use wet n dry sand paper and do it yourself. Cheaper but not quite as good. In any case, its best for a DTR to have its head skimmed after a rebuild, the heads commonly warp, and this problem has been seen loads on this forum

its been ok up until the last couple of days... i used all genuine gaskets ... so is that what the problem is could it not be anything to do with the thermostat ?? cheers
If it was the thermostat, the temp gauge would be going mental (or doing nothing), and the coolant would be fine, but its the coolant thats heating up. Id suggest a head skim, Fray on the forum had the same problem and it sorted his out.

my temp gauge is goin mad i forgot to mention that lol it goes up tored then back down then so on ... iv had the thermostat out today the gasket was split on the houseing so sorted that going to test it out in the morning if still nothing changed il go for the hea skim :) cheers guys
If its been into the red in the temp gauge its more than likely warped the head.
My temp gauge went funny when my head gasket went and warped my head its coz when it leaks coolant air gets into coolant system and as it goes round the system when the air hits the temp sender it sends it into red then when the coolant hits again it goes down again!
Crap explanation but best i can do!! You could also test your thermostat in a kettle to make sure.
