Hey guys, just after a bit of advise. I've had this bike for over a month and Im still yet to ride the damn thing!!! Seem to be fixing bodge after bloody bodge, the previous owner didn't have a clue with this poor DT.
My bike is a 2002 3RME modle with a TZR engine fitted as it has starter motor fitted and a kick start but I don't know the engine age.
I had a problem with no spark, done all the resistance tests, changed coil, changed cdi but it turned out the flywheel had come loose and sheered the woodruff key. I got a new key but can't re-fit or tighten the flywheel! The flywheel wont center on the tapered shaft, if I try to tighten it pushes tight against the starter gear and engine case and the engine wont turn, if I remove the ring gear plate and ring gear it will sit on the taper right and tighten ok but is then to far away from the stator that is bolted to the crank case.
I think there has been a newer flywheel fitted to the older engine to match the newer electrics. Could I fit an older stator and flywheel like the one below and match up to my newer 3RME cdi pictured? yamaha tzr/dt125 tzr/dt 125..STATOR N FLY WHEEL..
Would also help if anyone can age my engine? number on the cylinder starts with 3MB00 and engine number starts with 4DL if that helps, also see below pics.
Any help is really apreciated and if you need anymore info or pics just let me know.
I looked at fitting the electric start set up to my DTR as the casings look ready to take the starter motor etc, however I think the the crank is longer on the electric start DT's and from your numbers I'd guess that the crank is shorter.
Also the generator you've shown is an old style one and I dont think that the electric start ones are the same so that could be why its not fitting.
3MB is a DT code
4DL is a TZR125R code from the Belgarda Italian import.
Can you show the codes for every major component in your ignition system that way I could advise what you need to buy / then what you can sell to get it running. The CDI doesnt look right to me either.
At a guess I'd say you have 3 different models of ignition parts there!
Cheers Ben, yeah it seems to be a miss match of everything on this poor bike.
So by the sound of things I have a DT top end and a TZR bottom end with a short crank.
I've been reading the Haynes manual but that's not much help as my DT is so different from when it left the factory.
It does say in the manual that I have the correct cdi that bolts to the oil tank though.
I have managed to get it running at last, I removed all the starter gearing so the flywheel fits the taper nicely, then I managed to put some spacers behind the cdi pick up attached to the stator bringing it up to the correct position and hey presto started first Kick.
