Hi guys and gals, Been on here for a while now so thought I'd show my bike. going to give it a proper strip and rebuild when the weather gets a little warmer in the mean time Ill up date with any work or modifications I do on it.
It's not a show bike by any means, it's more about budget green laning and off roading fun with my DT. I bought it cheap with no tax or mot on a 2002 but was a runner with an older tzr engine fitted and didn't seem like it needed much doing to it but the more I removed the more of a bodge I found it was, seemed like every time I undone one bolt I needed to replace 4, what I thought was going to take two weeks to get ready for it's mot turned into two months lol.
Here it is as I got it.
First I stripped the forks off and replaced the seals and fluid. replaced kick start mech, gearbox oil and gaskets. remounted the bodged flywheel, replaces front and rear disks and pads and fluid, flushed cooling system, rewired all the lights, replaced head gasket, replaced chain and sprocket along with front and rear tyres, that was the basics but done so much more Ive just not got the time to list.
The exhaust caused some delays as some of you on here will know I had some problems swapping a knackered dep for a standard with a dodgy member on here so had to buy a standard gutted in the end.
After I finally got it through is mot it was time to smarten it up a bit with some fork socks, hand guards, tail tidy with led light, some small indicators and a smaller number plate.
Out playing in the snow
I now go out most weekends with friends getting muddy and abusing the little DT, I'm the only 125 in the group all the others being 400's but I don't have any probs keeping up, they accelerate a bit quicker but I soon catch up when the pinned power valve cuts in lol. I just struggle on the steep hills and in mud as there running full knobblies and I'm on trail tyres so that's next on the shopping list. here's some pics.
It's now in bits again as I'm replacing the clutch which is causing some probs, I've also got hold of a YPVS servo and cables so I'm also fitting these to, remover the reed switch in the servo and fitting a 15 tooth front sprocket for a bit more acceleration but this is how it was looking this morning.
Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed, I'll be updating as I go and hopefully some more green laning pics soon.
Also got a cheap knobblies enduro tyre off ebay today so just got to find a front now.

Hi benb, yeah there is loads of tread left on it, not far off new. if the one I have bought turns out ok and I no longer need the one I've got on now I'll let you know mate.
Cheers louis, No wasn't me, bit far to go on me little DT from Dorset lol.
Kev that is sweet what you've done with that bike, I mean givin it a proper going over. Sounds like the previous owner didn't have a clue, or just didn't give a monkeys.
What was wrong with the dep, no problems with a gutted standard tho from what i've read.
Cheers mate, yeah it's taken a while to rectify all the so called repairs but it's getting there, still finding bodged repairs every time I go to replace something!
Feels good to rescue the bike back from the brink though lol.
The dep was blowing real bad, and the previous owner made a right pigs ear of welding it up so I just went for a standard gutter, not noticed any difference in performance, it's just quieter and a little more heavier.
Nice bike mate, and i noticed the WR 450 in the pics mate that's what im after for my next bike....
What does your mate think of it, is it as reliable as the DT mate?
The WR is a nice bike, quick and reliable but like any bike including the DT it needs a lot of love and attention if used hard at the weekends playing in the mud.
Some of the maintenance jobs take a little longer than on the DT but that's just because everything is a little bit tighter but on the whole it's not let us down and proved to be a great bike.
It shocked me when I first rode the WR when the front wheel popped up unexpectedly in 3rd gear
If I was going for a 4 banger I'd go for the WR but I've got 2 stroke running through my veins I'm afraid, KTM EXC 250 is next for me in the near future
WR's are known for problems mate, obviously all bikes have problems, apart from the DT, never had any problems with me atleast. It's all down to maintenance mate, if your gonna do it properly then get a nice one not a battered one, because you will have problems no matter how good you maintain it.

Thanks for that mate, i think im defo getting one nah and get some Excel supermoto wheels for it for sunny days
And i 2 love 2 strokes, but i will be using the bike every-day so a KTM wouldnt be a good idea for me personally....i carnt afford all the re-building all the time.....and with a few mod's you can get the wr450f to like 50+ bhp which is plenty for me (im a bit of a mad head with the throttle) anything faster i would end up killing my self

Yeh i guess so, people recommend changing oil and oil filter every 400 miles which isnt that big of a deal because there is'nt no 2 stroke oil 2 buy every month
My DT has also been such a reliable bike for me not one problem, but WR forums say as long as you service them they are a good strong bike

Yes I agree mate, don't buy an old dog or anything that been abused but get a clean one and look after it and it will be fine.
My mate took his to the dealers because there was a rattle at the top end, they told him it's fine and to start worrying when it goes quiet and stops rattling lol

Yeah my mate has some SM wheels for his, looks nice and goes well too.
If I was using mine everyday I'd have a 4 stroker but I only use mine the weekend for a bit of fun, the KTM will need more maintance and rebuilding but thats the other part of owning a bike that I enjoy. Also having a big brick shed with electric, heating, a nice big work bench and a misses bringing me coffe and cake makes things a whole lot more enjoyable

Mmmm i guess so mate, and i would love a KTM but dont have the time or a garage to rebuild it!
And it's alright so some is'nt it hahahah class mate
Well thought it was time for a spring clean and a bit of a spruce up after a long hard winter of playing in the mud.
Started off with some new boots, decided on the Maxxis Maxxcross Pro road legal enduro tyres, 80/100-21 on the front and 120/100-18 rear.
Next it was time to get rid of the nasty, unreliable TZR lump, managed to source a low millage 2002 engine that's now on its way, when it arrives got to change the clutch and out put oil seal.
Thought I'd make a start removing the old engine over the weekend and to my suprise it was sat on the work bench within an hour! was shocked how quick and easy it was to remove from the bike.
Next was to clean up the rusty old exhaust front pipe ready for the new engine, couple of hours spent with a wire brush and some sandpaper then it was ready for its first coat.
Four coats of black heat proof paint and then four coats of clear lacquer to give it a bit of shine. was happy with the results, just hope it lasts!
I hope to receive the new engine before the bank holiday weekend so I can get cleaning up and spraying before it goes in the DT........watch this space.
hey chaps, finally got round to rebuilding and fitting the engine I bought off ebay, problem I now have with the electrics/cdi.
The problem is I have the cdi that sits on the back of the 2t oil tank with 8 wires and on the old engine the stator plate attached to the left hand flywheel cover. On the rebuilt engine the stator sits behind the flywheel and only has 6 wires with no where to plug the coil pick up from my cdi. Does the older cdi that sits next to the coil attached to the frame have only 6 wires? do I require this cdi to run my engine and if so anyone got one kicking around?
