Then the police and vose stopped me , and my bike. Vose said its illgal but didnt give me a fine or nother for the mirrrs never did the police..Had to re m.o.t it tho :(
my insurance has mirrors removed as a official modification along with indicators so it is legal but probably has some restrictions like with the indicators being pre 1986 or a single seat offroad bike
all i would do is derestrict it and put some boysen reeds in and a bigger front sprocket, and if thats not enough then you can go further with bore kits etc but i wouldnt recomend it, better of putting money towards a bigger bike !
It depends on what you want to get out of the engine, your budget and your competence as an engineer or a mechanic.
If you just want more top speed and you can afford it, send the top end to Stan Stephens who is probably the best in the business when it comes to 2 strokes.
If you have a more limited budget and not too much experience on engines, bolt an after market expansion chamber and tailpipe on. In my experience this is the one change that has the biggest effect on performance. There are some posts on the forum about the best pipe to go for.
If you have experience of engines, strip it down and if you have the equipment, measure everything to make sure it is within Yamaha tolerances (download the manual from the home page of DTR125.net which has all the info you need). Make sure all the ports are smooth and match the crankcases, clean out the power valve which gets full of sludgy oil over time. The one most important thing to do is check that the piston to bore clearance is in tolerance and the easiest way is to fit a piston ring into the bore about 10mm down from the top and with a feeler gauges make sure the end gap is no more than 0.45mm / 0.018inches. If it is more and the engine was rattling before you stripped it then get a rebore and new piston. Change the crankshaft seals if possible.
Really though have you read any of this section and the main page? It's littered with info on tuning. How are people supposed to know what you want done if you dont say? Exhaust, de-restriction, all the normal things that can be done.
ahhhhhh i see sorry dude I thought the general consensus was to go for a smaller sprocket for better acceleration. I assumed that was what you meant , I assumed wrong haha

Standard gearing is rubbish as it is, first and second are virtually useless. A smaller front wouldn't give you much better acceleration - you'd need to be quicker with the first two or three gear changes, that's all.

Personally mate i would get a full DEP, re-jet it to suit the DEP, go down 1 tooth on the front sprocket, DEFO DO THE CDI WIRE EARTH TRICK!
There all the mod's i have done and my'ne is on the arses of a KX 125 and a KTM 125 EXC lmao ;)
BTW when i did te CDI wire earth on my RE it made a huge difference the power come's in so much faster and harder (wheelie's in 1st and 2nd off the power)
