Ok, so ive got a 1990 DTR with a engine that was only rebuilt about 2000 miles ago or so... Right, so, i was just randomly going along and it cut out, i was in sixth gear, about 6000rpm. pulled over, and it wouldnt start... after a little while, it did, so i went off, and it happened again, only in fourth gear, about 8000rpm. waited a while and tried for a third time, only this time, it happened about 3000 rpm and i was pulling out (no, didnt stall it)
i went to my friends who's dad is a god of two-stroke's and he said its something to do with my fuel tank, he put some fuel in and had a ago, and it was fine. he told me that it was where my fuel was getting low, the little air bit was letting air into my petrol tank, so the vacuum in my tank stopped the petrol from getting into carb quick enough.
also, while all this was happening it was hard to start and the choke actually dropped the revs.
Im hoping someone out there actually knows what is happening. :/ i ragged the bike home after filling it up and it seemed fine. I'd like someone to tell me whats actually wrong if anyone knows, and what i should do about it... :)
ah, well, i checked my bike over after writing this, and all my coolant had gone. :O just topped it up now... but, it was pretty much on the full line before i left, done about 25 miles since that and it was pretty much gone...
There shouldnt be a vacuum in the tank. The filler cap has a breather hole. Check it is not blocked. Try running the bike for a while without the filler and see if that cures it. Losing water from the rad is a different problem all together. If no leaks are obvious it could be a head gasket or a leaking water pump seal. If the gearbox oil is milky then it is the seal. Hope this helps.
Thanks mate, and as for the coolant, if i fill the coolant resevoir up or not, my Rad is always full. :/but ill have a look tomorrow. are Head gaskets or water pump seals an easy job to do or should i take it somewhere?

+1 about the vacume in the tank..u dont want a vacume atall otherwise itll be sucking fuel back out the carb, check the gause filters on top of the fuel tap are clear i checked mine recently and they wer quite blocked. also check the filter in ur carb just undr the feed pipe from the tank urll see wat looks like a little plastic washer, dig it out carefully n clean that out is bound to have **** in it. aslo i cut down the logner brass pipe on my fuel tap coz it was making me go on to reserve way to early i still had **** loads of fuel wen i had to switch over, maybe ur avin the same problem???
well, its been running fine topped up. still concerned about my coolant and the fact whenever i ride my bike now, my right toe cap has a little wet patch on it, nowhere else, but im gonna take it around a friends and we're gonna clean my carb. :)
If you've got a wet toe it can only be water pump or bottom hose I reckon. Check the drain screw is tight and that there is no leak around the water pump cover gasket. Best thing to do is take it out for a run, get it warm and then inspect with the engine running so it maintains some pressure in the system.
