Ok , Bought the bike the other day Y Reg persuming it had carburettor problems , so when i purchased it i stripped the carb off the bike , cleaned it out , checked all the pipes were free and no blockages , put the carb back onto the bike , fitted a in line fuel filter to catch all the **** from the tank if there is any , started the bike up.
still the same problem , it takes a few kicks to start, with the choke on, then when the choke is off, if it isnt revved manualy then it will cut out , when revving up it revs extreamly high and then comes down slowly.
I was thinking it was starved of fuel but why ? because i cleaned everything out and checked there was no blockages.
Have you Tightened the inlet manifold and made sure theres no holes in it ? Sounds to me you have air getting In where it shouldnt, or it could be something simple like adjusting the mixture screw or cleaning the air filter. Hope this helps :)
EDIT: welcome to the forum mate, introduce yourself in the noobs section with some pics :)

Which one is the mixture screw ? on the carb it has 2 adjusters , a bigger one which is has a phillips head , and another smaller one which is with a flat head top
The flathead screw is tight , and the head on it is worn out ? , it starts every time with the choke on , but then revs to max , turn the choke off , then it revs down and cuts out if i dont rev manually ?
yeah exact issue i had m8 .took me buying 3 carbs to get a working one the airmix screw is a helpfull bit to av working though. winding out the throttle stop a bit extra seemed to help it drop its revs too but then obviously you av to cope with it cutting out all the time, mines running the opposite to yours then m8 mine runs lovley with the choke without choke i have the issues with it revvin its nuts off for no reason. but blockin off the air filter an sealing all the joints fixed it mostly ( it only did it once today anyway ) i thought it may be the cable sticking or the slide but iv checked them out to be fine. worth a look on yours though fella
The little brass flat head screw on your carb needs to be wound 1 and a half turns out, from being fully tightened. And like the other chaps have said, you need to look out for any possible air leaks, so the airbox, the carb, the manifold etc. Also, if you have the standard carb, there is an in-line filter that is quite well hidden, when you remove the fuel pipe from the carb, there is a little lip on the top of the brass carb pipe, gently give it a tug with some long nosed pliers and it should pop out. I checked mine today, full of sh*t lol.

Where did you get your carburettors from ? just ordered a new spark plug and air filter to see if that helps any ! if not i think it will be the air/fuel mixture screw , do you know the adjustment on that for a good mixture , thanks
Also another thing i dont understand , i can ride the bike after starting it up with the choke on , then turning it off , but i have to keep the revs going constantly
just ebay m8 i have a few myself but in all honesty one has a stuck air mix screw but its in a good spot it works an the other is just a carb body with no airmix screw in the hole at all cos i robbed it. But make sure you email em a piture of your carb with a big circle an arrow pointing to the piece your after or you could end up spending a fortune on loads of carbs with just a working idle screw like you already have (like this mug lol) i think its supposed to be out beetween 1.25 to 2 turns, but mine seems to like it turned out only a half a turn
Update , the screw is totally ****ed , ive come to the conclusion im buying a 2nd hand carb , anyone who wants this carb with the idle speed screw worn offer me ! :D haha
hmmm you should be able to tell instantly if the idle screw is working - you can turn it with finger and thumb or cross head screw driver, the revs will go up or down as if you were turning the throttle grip. Turn it whilst choke is off. Try and get it to idle and once you have, you can then adjust the air/fuel mixture screw.
Out of interest matty, have you checked your air filter just to see if it's not full of crap?
With mine, i start it with choke on for about 20sec, may give it a few light revs. Turn choke off and for the 1st 5-10sec i'll just keep the revs above idle abit to warm it, i can then walk away whilst it warms up.
If i turn the choke off and don't monitor it for the 1st 10sec it will cut out, i understand this is normal as it's from a cold start.
So, as soon as you turn the choke off try keeping the revs up for abit just to warm it, then leave it to see if it's still cutting out. Let me know if i'm going in the wrong direction here bud lol
Actually yes it does make a difference when i screw it right in i think it revs up alot more.
So ill start it up choke on, warm it up for a few minutes, turn the choke off, keep the revs going , then adjust the idle speed screw until it ticks over on its own, that's the problem really i cant get it to tick over on its own with the choke off no matter how much i adjust the screw.
I've put in a new spark plug, new air filter, new inlet manifold and reed valves, cleaned out the carb.
I rang a garage up today they said check the crank seal ?
after another half an hour going over everything yesterday i drained the oil and started the bike and it just revved its tits off, so its seems like the right hand crank seal has gone.
looks like ive got a busy weekend. lol thanks for replies guys
