Can't get the top ring in the piston groove PLZ HELP
Permalink

Hi i got my piston and barrel back thrusday and was gonna fit it all back on today but was stoped when i couldnt get the top ring in the piston groove its like the groove is too small half way round the piston so i cant push the piston together like i can with the bottem one.. the bottem one is too big to go in the top one. i phoned the bloke and he was implying to me that i didnt know what i was doing.. but the rings have a slant that can that meet with the pin on the piston.. but has said to take it back to him on tuesday and hel fit the rings for me but i know the top one is too big or he groove is too small as you can see when i run the ring around the groove it gets tighter no matter witch way the piston is truned up.

Here are my pics of the TZR piston an rings. For some reason i cant get the smaller/fatter ring to sit in the ring wall of the piston

yeah i had it like that but couldnt squeze the ring together to get the barrel on. that ring that u see with the gap is as far as i can get it to go. when i had it on the piston and tried to put the barrel on was kinda jamed in and didnt move freely kinda like it was wegged in. and even trying to get the barrel on just jamed it even tighter. It's gotta be something to do with the clearance of the piston grooves and the ring that's not matching. Im not sure what else i can do untill i take it back and let the bloke have a look at it on tuesday coz on the old piston they both move feely an can squeze em together so i know this is how it should be.

Both the rings differ in size and shape, if you look on the edge of the rings where the gap is, you will see a tiny 'T' is written, that has to be facing upwards. I didn't know about this, but when I bought the piston, the chap in the shop explained it to me.

If you got the rings with the piston (it looks like the same ones I have) then you should be okay. I recommend trying both rings in both gaps, making sure the small 'T' is facing upwards. Don't forget the little wire filament that comes with the rings goes in the gap for the bottom ring as well.

Hope this helps
