Right bought my DT in february, it took like 20 mins to start it..... had to replace the bottem end cus of a massive hole and now it jus dont want to start...... Theres loads of compression, fuels getting down, and there is a spark but a very weak one, as soon as it sparks it cuts out???
mates checked some of the things it could be like the timing oif when it needs to spark, spark plug, new hd lead but nope still nothing
However the stator/generators coils seem to be a bit worn, some parts of the coil are splayed and one of them as well as the connectors has burnt somehow???
What do ya think people, does it sound like i need a new stator or something else??
What else should i be checking??

Change the Coil first mate cos it does sound like it needs replacing anyway then if no start we take it from there, your local to me, so give Yamaha in Worthing a call mate, and order a coil although it will cost you an extra 4.95 to get it posted to you, and to be honest that isnt much if your desperate to get it sorted
Ive recently took it to the garage but because he didnt want to work on it because it was too much of a hassle supposadly........... so im back to trying to figure it out by myself and with my mate because im reluctant of selling it cus simply its a DT :)

Stator seems a bit worn as said earlier in the thread, wiring loom isnt in very good condy as well but it was all working before i changed the engine over????
i dont really wanna buy a new stator incase it isnt that as im not made of money so here i am asking if anyone could list some of the things it could be or any ideas what to do or check on the bike to find out the main problem with it.... i know it sounds desperate but i really am, its been since february and i havnt even riden it yet
What exactly is it doin when you try starting it m8 . you bumped it at all does it try to fire check you pick up coils wires to the top right of your flywheel.. piston in right with the arrow facing the front of the bike. try turning the powervalve to another posision ( this worked with one engine for me) sound most like its your small pick up coils connections though m8
my old yz did the same coil looked burnt and had week spark try taking the spark plug cap off the wire mine was coroded i cut like 8 mill off then screwed it back in had good spark and a tip i lernt 9 years ago if a bike wouldent start put a heater fan over air filter for a sec or two then kick it worked evry time with my yz250 heated air some how did the trick evry time
Cheers guys for the advice, mate was playing round with it and decided to disconnect the lighting and now we have got a strong spark now but still no luck in getting the bike running......
Ive been told since; the bikes got poor compression (can push the kickstart down with your little finger :L)
so we took apart the top end to get to the piston, some wear to the piston and the head and as well the piston rings are different in size to each other, also the head of the piston was BONE DRY even though we'd been trying for the past 20 minutes to kick start it...... could this be the reason why it might not be starting??
Tripr: mates said we cant try bump starting it jus yet because no gear box oil and that the clutch isnt good enough yet to bump start it (not bleeded yet maybe lol???) when we try starting it it sounds like it wants to fire, smokes coming out of the exhaust (smell of petrol) but like i said the head of the piston after chacking it was bone dry :/
Ive been told to get a brand spanking new top end cus the lack of compression, wondering what else to try before i go and fork out buying one????
Buy yaself a can of holts easy start m8 pick it up in most petrol stations cheap enuf not a permanent fix but should get your bike firing up at least for now worked a treat for me when i had troubles starting mine. an buy a new gasket kit off ebay 1st makes a ton of difference to ya compression to m8
yeah already tried using holts, jus ordered yesterday a brand new top end, genuine as well, £150...... bad thing is its gonna take 5 weeks to come because its coming from japan, ar well should be good when i finally get it going :)
Right me again :/ decided not to bother getting the new top end for it cus found out it would of taken 12 weeks plus so insted i bought a new piston kit so its got loads compression but it still dont want to start :/ starting to feel like were never get it going and it probably best to cut my losses and save for another few years to get another one :/ ..............But ive still got some hope in it and me and my m8s jus dont know why it dont wanna start, so here i am again asking if anyone could suggest any more things :)

Loads'a compression, Fuels getting through, Healthy Spark and sparking at the right time, new ht lead, new fuel.... i could keep going but we cant understand why its not starting.... when we try kicking it over it really wants to go but something stopping it :/
ya still struggling m8 maybe try pickin up another engine for it or a cheap nailed lookin runner an nick the bits,, thats my plan when money allows it, cos my other engines a nob too its got nothing wrong with it now exept its a twonk for starting off the kick unless i use a can of easy start but bump an its off,, so im gonna get another ( cant be stuck in a big dip in the field an not get it started it aint nice)

haha yeah mann, the engines in pretty good nick, its the loom carb and coils which are pretty shocking lol :/ yeah you know........ been trying to work out why its not starting again tonite, we took apart the carb and the jets head has been rounded off so we cant play with it so they seem pretty sure now it mus be the carb why its not starting... another thing im gonna have to buy lol....... it betta run one day lol......
tripr has found a generator on ebay, it was tried on a 1997 to make sure it was working, question is would it fit a 3md/3bn engine or doesnt matter what dt engine it is aslong as it has the same amount of coils lol????
