My DT is way too thirsty

Hi, wtf is going on with my dt, it drinks 14 liters (3.1 gallons) per 100 kilometers, (62 miles)

It has mikuni 32mm carb, 230 main jet, whitch seems good, and 35 idle jet, dont know about that. And 170cc kit. So yea, its running pretty nicely i think, just upset about the thirstynes of this little mobile.

Everything tells that dirt bike KTM should consume alot more fuel than dt, whitch is ment to street.

Hmm, i'd like to know exactly what makes 170cc consume more fuel, yes it has more cc's than 125, but exactly whats the reason.

It's because you've re-bored it to 170cc mate. The main reason is the carb settings since the re-bore. And yep as Bradderz said, the KTM's have alot more finely tuned parts/techno than the DT has so fuel consumption is alot less, aspecially on the newer models. smile

With the 170kit u have a larger piston sucking in more air due to increased volume of the barrel and piston , therefor more feul is needed to correct the air feul ratio , so more air goin in =more feul goin in Oh yea ur most likly goin to need to upjet to cope with more feul bein needed aswell , standard jet won't be able to feed enough feul thru, therefore ie engine will bog down as it will run lean as ****

 This!

It's simple really. Bigger jet + bigger carb + 170cc engine = more fuel. 60 miles to a tank isn't bad to be honest, I only get 70 myself, and I've upjetted and modded airflow to compensate.

Considering a DT is basically an MX bike in road clothes, it was never designed to easily deal with high mileage, otherwise the tank would have been bigger in the first place.

EDIT:

And for f*cks sake, don't put smaller jets in the carb, you'll be far more likely to run lean and seize the engine!

Also, are you running pre-mix or using the pump? Kinda pushing it if your still using the pump, as the 170 bore will require more fuel and more oil.

Problem already solved, i tried stock carb, changed jet few times and now its working well, now i dont have to live @ gass station all day x)

Simply reason was that with the 32mm carb adjustment's were totally ****d up. I had a lot of unburned oil and fuel mixture in my exhaust too :-/

DT MX bike in road clothes? Well, DT is ment for street, its not mx bike, it has low tunerate, not like ktm exc or husqvarna wr, in those bikes they have taken all power 125 engine could give. And hell no, im not running with oil pump. And yes, my bike was running way too ritch, we checked it with my friend's lambda sensor.
