Hi all, just to let you know when i finally get round to aquiring photobucket account i have some new pics to put up of my spark plug, lol. Seems to be ok, had it out just to check.
Right, powervalve/.........when i got my bike it was fully restricted. I began by taking out the baffle in the expansion pipe( i put pics up on my intro post in Noobs), well that seemed to make a nice little difference alone, it increased power somewhat.
Then after a week or so i turned the powervalve around to fully open, and as you will all know or expect....it flew. Be wary of tightening the end cap back up, i sheared the head off the bolt by overtightening using a god dam wank torque wrench. Lucky for me i was able to get the bolt out of the powervalve and get our old man to pop down to his old firm and knock me a bolt up....sorted, job done.
Trouble is, on the roads....its all top end and screaming acceleration. A lot of fun, but not practicle when cruising around the 40mph mark...having little power beneath 6000 revs i was having to cog down and get back in the band, or stay up there in the band...fantastic for blasting up to 80mph + but not very economic either and prolonged usage like that...ie 10k revs i imagine i would rattle it to ****kkkkkkkkk.......
Sooooooo I had a brain wave if you can call it that.......and i have now turned the powervalve back, but half way between fully open and the restricted postion.
All i can say is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.
It has lowered the band down to between 4.5k revs and 9k revs......so, to be honest you dont really lose that much top end or acceleration, you gain a lot at the bottom and mid range and for road usage it is just beautiful.
Fully derestricted/opened up i reckon is the best set up for off road usage or if you like 0-60 in under 4.5secs and leaving big bikes, fast cars and everything standing from the set off.
Half way.......its the way to go and im sure it will preserve the engine a bit longer not going much above 9k and having power at 4k. :)
May the sun shine and you all have a great weekend.
I came across a little useful info for the powevalve cap bolt torque setting.......
Take it finger tight and then tighten between 1/4 and 1/2 a turn. Apparently that is a rough estimate to the torque setting of that bolt without using a torque wrench.
I bought a torque wrench from the b and q.......and it was too heavy duty even though i took it to the correct setting....and ended up shearing the bolt.
When i turned the pv back half way between open and restricted, i tightened it up as above and jobs a good un,,....finger tight, then a quarter to half turn tightening.
Hope this prevents someone shearing the bolt like i did, i was lucky my old boy still has access to the firm he worked at, so was able to extract the broken bolt and make a new one. :)
good topic m8 iv been scouring the treads for summin on this i have notice the pv iv been using is set where you mention slightly closed off ,, been trying to get the other barrels pv to the same posision but it doesnt line up its like theres either max posision or off
