Hey guys, got a few for you, - there seems to be a fair amount of oil coming from the primary drive gear, - leaking from between the shaft and the engine. is this an internal or external fix normally?
BIke has been overheating - remedy top up coolant. - (expansion tank showed normal level.) This stoped the overheating but i have discovered there seems to be water coming from the frame. it seems to be coming from the underside of the weld were the rear frame meets the front.
as i understand it a hole in the frame will render the expansion tank usless as all expanded water will leak from frame.
the oil seal can be removed from outside so no probs there.. carfully screw two small screws into it and pull it out with pliers ..this way you wont scratch the seal housing by digging it out out with a screwdriver ..then use the old seal to push the new one in
the water comming from the frame is the expansion bottle overflowing it has a small tube that goes into the frame so it can flow to the bottom instead of all over your wheel
its normal like that and needs no fix
is the temp gauge saying its overheating or just water coming out??????
what i dont understand, is when the bike overheated, there was still lots of coolant in the expansion vessel but the rad was empty. also even when it was roasting hot the expansion vessel liquid was cold. could it need bleeding?

the bike was overheating it heavy red lined a coulpe of times, and it was found to be lack of coolant in the rad, it says (haynes) you are supposed to fill system via expansion tank, but his was full already
if pressure is pushed into the coolant system it pushes all the coolant out through the overflow and into vessle buy the time it gets noticed the coolant is cool
check for coolant leaks all over the bike
and check your sparkplug colour so we can make sure of why it overheated in the first place
Hey gadget, there doesn't seem to be any other coolant leaks as far as I can see. As far as smoke , on startup and until warm there is smoke, but it didn't look anything unusual as it does clear. Last time I changed the plug it had quite a bit of carbon ( black) the head gasket thing has got me thinking, when I took the rad cap off there was a build up of what I can only describe as congealed oil, gaskey could be gone?
so took the bike out today after temp was warm but not in the red. heard a pop (like sombody poping champagne) stopped and found that the coolant res cap had blowen clean off. the cooland seems to bubble as i rev higher. There is a oily residue in the coolant res. the coolant level was 'normal' untill i opened the rad - and it all dissapeared. what i donr understand is shouldnt the level in the res reflect the true level of the rad ? seems that the head gaskey is indeed away though :( Next thead is dt125 rebuild project!! :)
