Hey guys, ive been looking around at what restrictions are in the 2004 RE model, other than the washer in the exhaust system ive also heard about earthing some sort of wire??
Ive had a search around and cant seem to find a difinative tutorial or instructions on what to do to de restrict the bike this way. Ive heard its had something to do with the ECU, but I dont have a clue.
Green/blackWire in the clocks and the cat in the exhaust thats it Check wires going behind the clocks there should be a connector block, it has 4 wires going into it and only 3 going out of the other side, find this wire and earth it to the frame, or extend the wire backdown to the -ive side of the battery and thats the biggest gain there is You can also take the Cat out of the exhaust but this will require cutting in half and welding back up, so unless you know someone with a grinder/welder and are actually good at doing either of these look in the yellow pages, maybe £25-30 tops Or look on ebay for a second hand Dep, makes it look better and sound better aswell, dint's easily though so not really recommended for field bikes unless it's in sh!t condition or you don't care if you mess it up, Sorry if it doesn't make sence, was in a rush.. Chowwww
What exactly does the wire do? I thought the reed block thing on the older DTs was to limit revs in 6th or something to do with it when it gets to 60? :/
I think it messes with the power-valve system over a certain rev-range, When I did mine I didn't really notice any more top end speed but it just flew through the gearbox to 6th in no time at all!
You should notice that when you hit around 10'000 RPM on the RE DT's the power surge shuts off.
This is because the power valve closes. Earthing the wire stops this from happening. So after 10'000 RPM the power valve remains open letting you use the full power of the engine.
Okay i have a dt 125 re 04 mod too. With the green/black wire not earthed, I checked. But my friend has a 06 or 07 DTX with the wire earthed. I have adjusted my pv to open a bit more. And he did the same. he had a dep and me a gianelli. And there was no difference in our bikes, And the small different that there was was because of him having a dep and me a gianelli. Does this earthening of the wire really do anything ?.

For the 10 minutes it takes to do it you tell us.. I noticed a difference but not in top end, just seemed to fly through the gears alot quicker
I added a wire to mine, I earthed it under a bolt but after a while it started to break off so in the end just earthed it to the battery and sold it on like that.. Really all I can say is try it and if you don't like it just un-earth it and tape it up
How thick is the green/black wire so that i can extend it with another wire of the same thickness??
and nor dt, pretty sure its:
1 disconnect green/black from clocks 2 solder or use a bullet connector to connect another piece of wire which will make it long enough to reach the battery 3 then you need to connect it up to the - negative side of the battery
I just extended the black/green wire following the loom and back to the negative side of the battery, Or you could just connect it to any bare part of the frame ensuring it's got a good connection as the frame itself is connected to the negative side of the battery Could even put a switch in if you really wanted to see if there was a difference or not..
And thickness? It's not stupidly thick, just about the same as most of all the other wires on the bike
Can anyone post a vid of their Ypvs when revving up high ?. so i can see how it goes. then i can compare it to mine ?. Cause i seen some movies of the ypvs on youtube, and even one saying "Earthed wire" And mine is acting the exact same way as that one, I dont think mine starts to close after 10 000 as your saying either. but im not really shure. ill check it when its back together.
If someone with the wire un-earthed can post a vid with some high revving showing the ypvs and someone with the wire earthed, Also with some high revving, i would be really happy cause then we can see the difference.
Yeah but theres no way of knowing if thats with the wire earthed or not ;). Find me a vid of someone with the wire un-earthed ?
Cause ive seen alot of those movies but never seen a pv that does what i heard its doing when the wire is un-earthed, Wich is turning the other way when they go over 10 000 rpm..
Why not just go for a test ride, come back, earth the wire and see if you notice a difference afterwards? If there isn't a difference just don't bother disconnecting the wire
Im in the middle of getting new main bearings and a new crank, awaiting parts from the uk ;).
but if no one can be bothered to film the pv when the bike is revving then fine. ill just wait untill i get my bike together and compare my pv to my friends pv then ..
Definatly can see a major difference when earthing the green black to the battery, did it last night and the num nam who had it before just disconnected it without earthing it to anything, probably restricted it even more lol
Ok well can we please sticky this thread so people know how to do it? I took some pictures of how i did mine.
No one has mentioned that the wires aren't actually in the clocks themselves, i've now buggered up my clocks the trip counter vibrates and moves with the revs so i've got to see if i can correct that now, (shame as it had counted 3k miles since i've owned the bike :( )
Anyway the wire itself was miles away from the clock, traced back the wires coming from the connector in the clocks to this next one which was behind the headlight unit! This is where i found the connector with the extra wire going nowhere.
First attempt at attatching a wire with crude tools (pliers, screwdrivers, pair of scissors lol)
Naturally this fell out, second attempt.
Hah, bastard.
Now onto find an earthing point, seeing as this is just a temporary wire mod till i can get somewhere with proper tools and make it neat lol. Found a good spot nearby.
scratched off some paint so that it would earth (getting the frame powdercoated in a month so like i give a damn lol)
Wrapped that slag around a bit tighter than in this pic, it's wedged in by the other wires so won't come loose.
Took it for a quick ride on the dual carraigeways and yeah seems a lot better.
Anyways as asked can we make this a sticky for future reference?
