DEP expanny
Permalink

Im not stupid and know im talking about an exhaust in the engine (sorry if this is the wrong section mods) just dont go slating me. :D

Anyways. I have a dep expanny for my bike (im currently running a gutted stock) well, i put it on and as some of you may have read, my bike broke. what happened exactly was i got too high revs (mostly in 6th) and my bike kept bogging out, when i finally came to the end of the long road, i stopped and while in neautral with the clutch in, my bike cut out. anyway. 100 kicks and an rac man later, my bike was as home. turns out the piston was craked. had a top end rebuild and put the standard back on, its running ok now.

question is.

-was the dep expanny the cause of my problem, if so, why?

-why was it bogging down?

Any help would be gratly appreciated. ive got some ideas, but wanna make sure before i jump straight into putting it back on, i have got what i think is a 215 main jet in, and ive got a 240 that i may put in.

sounds like  it was lean , two strokes can over rev if they are lean, but also are hard to start after being ridden hard

what year is your carb ????

old dtr 1990 to about 1996 has vm26...carb and a 210 standard main jet

newer dtr/re/sm 1997-on etc has vm28...carb and 240 standard main jet

if its an old carb you were lean on main jet for full dep

if its a newer carb you were very very lean on main jet for full dep

deffinatly sort your carb before running the full dep again or your gonna be in the same situation

hope this helps with the years of carb /jets/pipes  issue

good luck and let us know how you get on and the size of ya carb  smilesmilesmile

1990 vm26 full dep ...try 220-230

and clean air filter and oil it

also check your oil pump and cable just to be safe

im running 1990 bike vm26 bigone spanny oldskool dep rear 210 main jet and its a little lean at about 7k revs so im gonna up it to 220-230 after iv played with the needle position to put the power where i want it

just to be sure measure the hole in he middle of yer carb

Mine's an '03, 28mm carb, agreed though, didn't read the thread 100% lol apologies, 230-240 would be better suited.

Kinda makes sense, when I originally started looking around for up-jetting info when I first got the bike, most folk kept telling me I should up-jet to 240, when I already had a 240 in there. So went up to a 260 and jobs a goodun :)
