Hello Lads, Havent been on for a week or two, as needed to get away from the bike stuff, As mine drove me mad, got my bike back from Yamaha last friday only to go on it sunday evening 5 mins down the road and the clutch went AGAINNNNNNN, took it back yesterday and told them sort it etc, soooooooo now I just went and got it everything seems fine with the clutch, of course like they said and I even knew, it was the push rod front nut came lose, so I had no clutch, So now the serious reply bit...........
Now I dont know everything about this stuff as you all know, But Yamaha turned round to me and said, the push rod nut came lose due to so much power in low revs, (due to rotation and vibrate), One of them said when we took your bike out for a test run, in first gear the bike just went up (wheelie) without clutch,
Theres me thinking hang on a minute it never happened before all this changing clutch plates, new return gear spring on etc etc, why are they suddenly saying this now, as the only thing thats been changed since the new clutch stuff is the reed valves as have racing ones in now,
Why I am please asking for a serious reply is cos someone must know this 100% if this is the case, or do you think the little snakes didnt bother tightening the push rod nut up right the first time round and trying to hide there mistake?? As cos its a tuned engine but a standard gearbox, they said it might happen again??..........
And IF it does what solution do I have? unless I do the push rod nut up tight myself and weld it there? what you think lads ,

i dont see how this is possable, there may be vibrations but no more than you get at 10k revs in 6th doing 80mph. almost every modified dt is apsalutly fine and noone ever really does anything with the clutch, especially the bolt. when you get it back again just check yourself that the bolt is tight, but dont tell them your doing it because it could unwarrenty any work they did
thats yamaha for you. enough said? :D haha. tbh, it was probably a mistake on there part. most mechanics do half-arsed jobs at some point in there life...
Well when i took my clutch off to put a kickstart onto my DTRE it kept doing as PatMan said and after 2 cheapo gaskets i thought fack it just put a lock nut on the end There was only 1 thing on the pushrod at the time, and that was the big flanged nut thingy, you know the thing you adjust? Well everytime i went out the clutch would spin around as it's supposed to and slowly but surely i would lose my clutch (well not slowly but after about 3-5 miles) So i stripped it once again and set the pushrod up, by the good book (haynes not the bible lol) and put a locking nut on the outer side of it so couldn't un-thread itself
So in the end the pushrod had the big flanged nut thing on the inside of the pressure plate and the locking nut on the outside of the pressure plate
Thankyou sooooooooo much guys for your advice, OH MY GOD @ Gadget mate when you said dont weld it, THAT IS EXCACTLY WHAT YAMAHA TOLD ME TO DO IF IT CAME LOOSE AGAIN THE ********, BUTTTTTTTT one of my biker mates said about the lock nut, so you lot are deffo right there, I went for a blast last night on it, and thought it needs to be thrashed abit, (as again YAMAHA told me to keep the revs lower) so gave a good 9/10k revs here and there, and touch wood its fine at the moment, the mechanic in the shop said I have now tightened the pushrod nut up as tight as it will go.......AWWWWWWWWWWWWW so you didnt bother doing that first time round then I take it, he knows and I know he didnt, hence why it was free of charge they just didnt wanna admit the mistake, which in my eyes he would of got alot more repect if he admitted the mistake, NEVER WILL I TAKE MY BIKE BACK THERE TO BE FIXED, they obviously dont bother with torque settings etc etc they just guess, as other bolts like my plastics etc etc were not really tight either, but thanks for everything lads.

the locknut was supposed to be there from the start lol
this comes loose and gives the probs...yours must have come off
did you put threadlock on it ???
Oh thats probably why mine kept messing up, i must have took it off and didn't realise (highly likely)
Instead of the original which doesn't have a locking nut on i used an actual locking nut itself, you know with the blue nylon but inside the end?
And no worries PatMan, they probably know there stuff but for other (bigger) bikes, can't see all that many people taking DTR's in to be sorted as if you have a decent one and keep it in check with the maintainance then barely anything will ever go wrong..
Seems to be fine now, but at least I know now what to do if it happens again, thanks lads for everything and GIN mate, When I originally rung up Yamaha they did say to me, we have a mechanic here who knows **** loads about DT's........Obviously not hahaha
I think I found why mine had an air leak when it did, on the pic below I have put arrows on the inlet stub at the bottom where there is a thick rubber square bit, the person before me obviously cut it out to get more air in, I take it this is not a good idea at all???
Some people have posted positive results by 'chamferring' it down, myself i found it didn't do jack $h!t!! If anything it slowed it down so i put the original one back on and sold the other on ebay for twice the amount i paid as a high performance inlet manifold!!
Well just to let you know gin mate I ordered that one above, of a 93 dt you always seem to be right so I take your word for it and will stick that one on when it comes thanks again mate!!!!!
Yeah no worries mate, thats going on personal experience alone though Someone on here (for the life of me i can't remember his name, something about yz or yzf) well anyways.. He did some mods to his bike, such as cutting the top of the airbox off and upjetting aswell as the inlet manifold mod, i think he said it worked but since he did it with all the other mods at the same time it would be hard to tell which helped and which hindered the bikes overall performance..
How much did you pay for the inlet manifold then? I think i paid £10 for mine with the standard reeds aswell, Then after finding out it didn't do all that much i sold it as a modified inlet for £15 and the reeds seperate for £5 haha
Yeah it's all about supply and demand, if he was the only one on ebay selling one then he can ask whatever he wants until someone cheaper comes along.. Sell the other as a performance inlet manifold and you'll easy pull £15-20 back for it Perfect for some 17yo yob* who will get the money off of mummy or daddy
*When i say 17yo yob i of course don't mean any yobs on here who happen to be 17
Hmmmmmmmmm you did well Gin, and of course I would sort you out for doing it, but the one I got on at the mo I would throw it straight in the bin, as it coursed the air leak, (so Yamaha say) and they have used seal stuff around it to close it up, so what you reckon its worth now mate?? nothing?
I did notice aswell when I took the reed block off there was a black gasket there when I took that one off I noticed there was another black gasket there aswell, and I did think that was odd 2 gaskets on top of each other when there is only suppose to be one underneath the reed block
