i have a 54 plate dtre i have had it derestricted at a garage full dep exhaust and wire cut going from speedo to ecu and earthed but they said the inlet manifold induction going to reeds would have a benefit by cuting the reducer as it channels direct ait flow to the reeds anyway am geting the power valve now and excellerates well it did 75 down a slight hill as it bogged in 6th gear so i geared it down 1 tooth on the front spocket now does around 70mph but maintains that speed better is this right sort of speed you get from a derestricted bike 70-75mph ????confusehmm

I would say 75 to 85 was a good speed so your not doing bad, a dt isnt a top speed bike more for accellaration if your after speed then you would love a rs125 kicking out 100 plus but the dt125r is faster of the mark which is why i prefer it to my old rs

Let us know how you get on

would like to see that lol, engine wouldnt last 2 minutes and wouldnt like it seizing up at 115mph

In my eyes the dtr is a crosser not a road racer but thats just me lol not into top speed more on how it gets there, and you want the power low down for when you chuck it about offroad

Love the look of your dtr m8 looks like you have spent alot of time and money on it :)

^ LOL

I have the exact same bike 54 reg dt125re and i have put a full dep system on, earthed the wire, UPJETTED to suit & gone down 1 tooth on the front sprocket and myne goes off the clock when my head is in the clock's and im screaming the hell out of her! biggrin

All i can say is up-jet your carb to suit what you have done, give her a full service & run her on good 2 stroke oil an she should flyyyyywinkwinkwink

Serious answer time: hey mate, i find that when i first set off my bike will only just go over 70 but after 20 miles or so it goes off the clock. try taking her for a long ride then checking out the top speed again?

what i dont get is why i would need to upjet confuse because i have changed the exhaust  now the engine is alble to get rid of its gases easier making it rev more freely and ecu lets me go above 60mph biggrin  but no extra air is going into carb so done get why you would need to upjet confuse

Not 100% sure on how jet's work but i know for a fact your dt will benefit from it and will make your engine last londer and gain pefromance biggrin

carb has a fuel bowl at the bottom and as air  passes through the carb venturi via air cleaner it sucks fuel out of the fuel bowl through the jets which are like tubes that have different sizes to allow more or less fuel through and a mix of air fuel goes straight through into the inlet manifold to be ignited by sparkplug to start to compression cycle again so if i allowed more air to go into the carb i would have to upjet but am running standard airbox with snorkel but i think ar just settle for what it does as ar be offroad most of the time wink thanks again

If you change your exhuast it would deffo go better with a biger jet as the engine isent as choked and revs more freely as a result sucks more air in, but cant draw asmuch fuel as the jet sets how much fuel to air is being mixed, a engine with the wrong jet size will feel rought on pic up and can make the engine run hotter than it should.

Deppends on what year your dt is to what size your jet as i belive the early one had a 210 the the l8rs ones had a 240 jet, with a race pip a 250 or 260 would be best

Should think urs is a 240

Thanks for carb lesson haha

And not sure mate but i got mine done a t local garage and the mechanic did what he had to do took plug out and it needed up-jetting so he had it for the day and he said in the end it had to go (4 jets above the original jet) And the bike at that time only had the DEP system on NO other mod's and since that i have earthed wire & took snorkel off and the plug has stayed the colour it should be so is all good. So if i was you mate i would defo get your dt up-jetted i noticed a massive difference straight away the bike felt alot smoother, and more responsive and i gained quite alot of top end after it was up-jetted to suit the DEP system! wink

The best bet if to do a jet test or what ever it is called and check your spark plug to see if it running lean, spot on, or rich. Always better to be safe then sorry mate. hmm

Yes mate and dont even go there, not long ago I had an air leak, this was the course of it, The person who had the DT before put this mod in, All your doing is cutting the rubber bit out at the bottom of the inlet manifold which goes in the reed block, so it will let more air though, To be honest now mine is back to normal how it should be, I dont notice much difference...................................................................................

But lets me honest with ourselfs here and see who agrees with me, in my opinion the more you tamper with your DT the MORE problems you will have

But a tip for you: If you do decide to cut that bit of rubber out, MAKE SURE YOU USE SEALANT TO STICK THE REED BLOCK AND THE INLET MANIFOLD TOGETHER, TRUST ME MATE YOU WILL GET AN AIR LEAK WHICH WILL CAUSE THE BIKE TO OVER REV WHEN STATIONARY TO 6/8K REVS..................And I know this cos its happened to me, hope this helps mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

110 on a dtr.. could be done, but! the engine would have to be modded a fair bit.the tzr125r italian would only just do this speed. thats at 32HP. with a fairing, 32mm dellorto carb, and the gearing.

KTM125exec i have seen, will do 100mph. utube top speed.

my dtr did 90 downhill..lol

I agree anything is possible, but it would take alot of tunning and would probably blow up every time you had it flat out haha.

I once saw a honda rs 125 race bik put on the road and no word of a lie it did 150 odd mph OUT OF A 125! It is 45-50bhpfurious I will try & find the linkwink

Haha yeh L plates would be crazy, you could be smoking alot of things on the road! But I would love to know how many miles it would do before it needed a full rebuild. I think about 300 miles max if you contastly thrash it

they stop going up when they hit the little nipple thingy which is about 87mph ish but in real life you are most likely doing about 80mph.
