hey all, ive got a 2005 dtx and my starter motor has gone....been bump starting it for about 4 weeks now as i dont want to shell out 250 for a new starter motor from yamaha.... so i want to convert to kickstart.... just need a little advice basically..

is this what i need?  (option 1 'KICK AXLE ASSY') £42.17

http://www.yamahamotorcyclespares.co.uk/spares/epc2.asp?PageiD=12&modelID=9134&uID=0

You need more then that mate
Off the top of my head:

Kickstart lever
Kickstart shaft
Oil seal for side casing
An idler gear that goes behind the clutch (requires taking the clutch off to fit it)
Some circlips to hold it on
And perhaps some other stuff I've missed out

Best bet would be trying to find a dead bottom end and taking it out of that, although I have seen a kickstart conversion kit on ebay for about £35 many moons ago... Good luck buddy

ok cheers...i just found that link on a yammy OEM parts site listed as a complete kickstart for a 2002 dtr and thought thats what i needed... it does come with the above things you mentioned except the idle gear...

not having any luck finding secondhands parts or dead bottom ends...n my only means of transport is my dtx which makes things more difficult lol...
